1. He was dragged into the crowd​

Fanone was pulled out of the police line by rioters who grabbed his gear and body armor.

2. He was beaten and tased​

• He was struck repeatedly with fists and objects.
• One rioter, Daniel Rodriguez, tased Fanone in the neck multiple times.
• Fanone suffered a heart attack and traumatic brain injury.

3. He was threatened with his own gun​

Fanone testified that rioters shouted:

“Kill him with his own gun.”

4. He survived because a few rioters intervened​

A small number of individuals in the crowd eventually shielded him long enough for other officers to pull him back to safety.

5. Multiple attackers were later convicted​

Several individuals involved in the assault have been sentenced to federal prison.
