I address this to you since, unlike the dainty, there is a chance you might be more receptive to obtaining information which challenges what you believe.

There is not a single politician (Republican or Democrat) who would dare to vote to simply scuttle Social Security. Too many people have paid into it for too long and now rely (to some degree varying by their stations in life) on those monthly deposits.

But if I were a young guy again just starting my working career, if I didn’t have to pay into social security every month, I could use that money to fund my own retirement savings.

So, between those who have never paid into it yet and those who now rely on it, there are ways to start the process of reducing what folks pay into it depending on age and maybe some actuarial table.

Details can be hammered out. But it would have to be in phases. Ultimately, we could reach a stage where nobody has to pay into it anymore and nobody who is receiving it would be without it. It would take time. But it needs to be done.
