If you are using a solid fuel booster, then there are no pumps, cooling, or anything worth reusing.
Private means profit motivated, which is fine for putting satellites into orbit, but there is no profit in research, like getting to Mars.

1. You get control, they do what you pay for.
2. Capture for reuse means you can build a big space station or a base on the moon or Mars.
3. Solid vs Liquid is a complex decision, big rockets use liquid fuel.
4. The difference between paying NASA to get to Mars or paying SpaceX is that SpaceX is faster and cheaper.

No, normally inflation takes care of the needed growth.
The slight SS deficit will not last long and is only due to the huge boomer bulge.

This graph explains the change in US population over time.

It shows that the boomer bulge was an anomaly, and people are having much smaller families now.
That is not a problem in the future, once the boomer bulge has died off.

The population going down will make the situation worse, not better.
