Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. PR's culture is part of the overall culture of the United States of America.
We owe them nothing anymore. Stop sending them our tax dollars. It is like perma poverty. Let China have them.

The author laid this out perfectly. Many of you on both the right and the left played your parts perfectly. You operated as programmed and never once thought for yourselves.

The conservative backlash wasn’t really about music. It was about discomfort with change and the refusal to admit that not everything is designed to feel familiar anymore. The progressive overpraise wasn’t really about art either. It was about signaling moral alignment and extracting symbolic meaning from something engineered to be disposable. Both reactions inflated the significance of a spectacle precisely because triviality does not feed engagement.

That’s the part worth lingering on. We now live in an ecosystem where boredom is intolerable and neutrality is suspicious. Everything has to be a fight. Every cultural artifact must be processed through a partisan lens or it feels wasted. A halftime show cannot just exist. It has to offend, affirm, threaten, or redeem.

The saddest part is how joyless this all feels. The Super Bowl used to be a night where people argued about commercials and laughed at the excess of it all. Now it’s another venue for pre-scripted outrage, another excuse to perform allegiance. Nobody looks happy doing this. They look committed.

The problem with last night wasn’t the halftime show. It was the hunger to turn a forgettable performance into a referendum.

So, you're OK with Janet Jackson baring her chest during the half time show?

Actually, Bad Bunny is one of the top performers on earth right now. But you are right about the game.

For sure, world wide. But for your typical beer drinking, fantasy football playing, PSL holding NFL fan I'm willing to bet no one listens to this guy or even knew who he was. If the NFL was trying to get more fans in Central and South America then they accomplished that.

Pages & pages, about a half time event.
Anything but look a the dividing of, and hate for other Americans because of political party choice.

There’s another failed attempt. Want to try again?
There’s the dim bulb who yesterday declared Bad Bumbler has won three Emmy’s (Grammys) and when corrected STILL did not recognize his error and repeated it. The Puerto Rico is a state assertion was vintage idiot also.
Now Slade is one iof the original 4 digit paids but kinda looks like they may have to review him in order to continue. Look for a 5-6 post outburst and then the10 paid per day max will be reached and done for this day

And they are all glued to their non existent TVs down there watching the games

Here is why I changed channels. Entertainment to me has to be understandable. My former schooling in Spanish, way back in the 1950s simply left me out of the program. They could have performed speaking Chinese or Korean and I still would change channels. What shocked me too is that the Super Bowl presented this type of entertainment, aimed at one group in California I believe. My son in law and my daughter never watched it at all. I wanted to see two giants of professional football play the game and Seattle played it far better than New England.

The game was equally boring.
Both teams played very good defense, and many fans do not enjoy defense at all. As happens with many games, this one featured the lack of skill played by New England on offense with the good defense by both teams for 3 quarters. Even when New England scored, they also sent gifts to Seattle in the form of interceptions. Seattle played the better game.

We can't blame the players and staff for what the event put up for entertainment.

hmmmm...the article itself seems to be just someone fulfilling their role in all this...does replying to it also prove how dumb we have become?

3 Grammys. I said Emmys was a typo and thanked you for correcting it. That’s recognition of the error which I made immediately.

Let’s roll… Ching Ching I’m about to hit my bonus

I gave up on halftimes after Jay Z took over. Booking a dude that doesn't perform anything in English was particularly offensive.

But sorry, the game was boring - 3 and outs and field goals make for a boring game

The Bad Bunny performance was completely for the camera, not the stands, and visually was more interesting than a guy standing on stage.
Unfortunately it was all in Spanish and I don't ever watch Univision. But those who do say they couldn't understand him either.

The TPUSA program AND Bad Bunny were both politically driven entertainment. Unfortunately.

I miss the days of things not being all about politics.

I fear that soon even my favorite food will become the locus of yet another political debate. Whether I eat bacon cheeseburgers or prefer a chili burger or salads only will now become a partisan political outrage speech.

Can't I just like a bacon cheeseburger without it saying something about identity politics? Can I drink a beer to wash it down without it being a statement over homosexuals giving corporal punishment in public schools?
If I eat the fries that come with can I just like them without it being a statement over Candace Owen or her fight with Macron?

Dunno...

But to me a rose is just a rose and a burger and beer just a burger and beer.

I got more going on in my life other than giving politicians free rent in my head space.

Nonsense. the music was boring, the sheilas were presented as trollops/whores and the blokes were sleazy.

When the NFL got it right.

I got nothing against singing Spanish for the halftime...why make it controversial tho.

I saw a pic of BB burning a American flag and that makes him not a very good American to me.

Next year it will sharia half time.

Wait and see.

Apparently Bad Bunny is the number one artist downloaded from Spotify.

Who knew?

Bad Bunny may be international culture but he isn't exactly White Middle Aged Men culture. (80% of NFL fanbase)

Also his audience does not have the $$$ that Middle aged white men do. Which is where the advertising dollars spent on the superbowl are targeted towards. ($8 million per 30 second spot)

And so....

Investors and advertisers always vote too. And unfortunately money says who is right and who is wrong in American society because dollar votes have much more weight than anyone else's vote.

The ads surrounding the halftime show will drop in price to rock bottom in years to come.

According to rumor....TPUSA put together their entire show inside of 6 months.
Meaning someone else has a shot at doing it too....especially if they make a good plan and promise a dynamic halftime show.

At this point it could be Victoria Secret models singing "I'm a little teapot" off key and dancing in their new catalog outfits and it likely would be the biggest watched show in television history. (Political commentary would still happen but it wouldn't be the focus of the program)

Billy Graham's son Franklin could have a sermon to cover sports and charity for 20 minutes and it would grab a portion of the audience too....albeit much smaller than the amount bad sounding lingerie models would.

NFL broke themselves. Nobody to blame but themselves.

Using Spotify to determine who to invite?
Worst call in NFL history. Funniest part is that the refs didn't make that call. They did their job better than the executives did.
