Israel launches airstrikes against Iran.

Lol. It’s obvious, if you have a functioning brain. A brain infected with Zionism (Nazism), it’s not possible to comprehend.
oh gee---you are stymied again----reduced to word salad (consistent with both dementia and
psychosis)

MOre like, Bibi trying to avoid negotiating with the Palestinians in good faith by playing Hamas and Fatah off against each other.

Fatah gets the West Bank, Hamas gets Gaza, Israel doesn't have to negotiate on a two-state solution, ever.

Do you know what you are talking about?

Because l don’t.

Could trace it back to Jimmy Carter.

But Carter's true transgression—the original sin that has complicated and shaped U.S. policy in the Middle East ever since—preceded that. Carter's gravest mistake was his disastrous undermining and lack of support for the legitimate ruler of Iran, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was waging a valiant battle against leukemia as the revolution unfolded in his country.

To be fair, Carter had plenty of assistance in his geopolitical blunder. His State Department seemed to effectively encourage the growing protests against the shah's reign, which came to a head when Sec. of State Cyrus Vance announced that the shah would leave on "vacation" for an indefinite period. But the final responsibility lies with Carter, who saw fundamentalist sharks circling an ailing shah and helped engineer the rise of his disastrous successor by putting his trust in the exiled, soon-to-be leader of the Islamic Republic, Khomeini, and throwing the shah, a decades-long U.S. ally, under the bus.

GEE !!!!!! I actually agree WHOLE HEARTEDLY----way back then I had already been acquainted with
lots of Iranians----people who fled LOOMING Islamism in the late 60s and into the
70s----mostly muslims and a few jews. Of the muslims most were highly educated
professionals (well---doctors---in Iran-- that was considered highly educated)---amongst the
jews the expats were often children----like the kinder transport from Germany in the 1930s---
jewish parents were SAVING THEIR KIDS. The Ayatoilets are-----aa huge tragedy for Iran---
Carter was a nice guy---just not up to the job

Hamas doesn't want a "two state" solution, and neither do you .

They just want to kill the Jews.

Maybe we should get serious about Chi-Com "farmland" near our .mil bases after seeing what all of those IDF in-country (Iran) drone bases can do.

I’ll give it to Israel, when they want to **** shit up they do it efficiently and quickly.....We need to understand that the chi-coms could too if we allow them bases to operate from.

Yes, indeed. Every one at the time kept insisting that Carter was a nice guy with good values, but just over his head with the presidency, when later years showed us he was vehemently anti-Israel and supportive of Israel’s enemies.

That regime has ruined Persian culture.

Absolutely true. They would have had one by now if that’s what their objective was. (They had offers and turned them down.) Their goal is to wipe out Israel and make the whole of the Middle East Juden-free.

Uh, guy, the Shah was a piece of human garbage who murdered any sensible opposition.

He squandered billions on a lavish lifestyle for himself and the other royals while the Iranian people went hungry. That's why he was overthrown.

The problem was, of course, that because he had spent decades taking out all the sensible, western-educated small-d democrats, the only people available to fill in the power vacuum were the clergy.

We supported a lot of awful people during the Cold War- Somoza, Marcos, Chiang Kai-shek, the Shah, etc.

So we won the Cold War, but much of the third world hates us for the misery we inflicted on them.

No, this was cultural imperialism that they revolted against.

Sorry you don't understand the difference.

Now, I'm probably as worried as you are that the reaction to cultural imperialism was more religious fanaticism. Trying to please an imaginary sky pixie is never a good idea. But let's not forget what got us here.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

You never learnt from that old adage?

Didn’t think you had, with your naive world view.

Works on the job that it is our job to choose our devils.

We screwed up when British Petroleum talked the CIA into putting the Shah back into power in 1954 after a democratically elected government tried to limit his power to that of a ceremonial monarch and vote to fairly distribute the oil wealth.

Absolutely no one in Iran today, even those who hate the Ayatollahs, want a restoration of the Pahlevi Monarchy.
