To be fair, the appeal embedded in post #4 isn't collecting on behalf of elderly Jews living America. It's appealing on behalf of elderly Jews living in Siberia, whose abject poverty prevents them from celebrating Jewish festivals. But on account of that, surely the appeal should've been broadcasted in Russia, the home of the potential beneficiaries? Having said that, the appeal is obviously discriminatory. Why not appeal on behalf of all elderly Russian citizens who have no choice but to opt for means of sustenance instead of religious obligations, regardless of their respective faiths? Although having said that, why not focus the appeal on American Jews in Synagogues across America, seeing as the contributions garnered will only be used to help Jews in Russia? A more focused appeal following that example would also avoid any suspicion from American gentiles, who can't be blamed for asking themselves: 'Why are they appealing on behalf of such a marginal minority across a majority Christian nation? Something smells fishy here!'
I think that the appeal's content speaks for itself with regards to who the target audience is/was. The appeal's opening gambit is larded with references to what Jews endured during the Holocaust. Indeed, what's that got to do with levels of poverty in Siberia? Surely that's down to the economic policies of previous Russian governments/autocracies, not the the policies of the Third Reich? Why not include visual examples/inferences of economic mismanagement on behalf of the Russian government, seeing as they would have much more bearing on the present conditions of the elderly Jewish citizens in their care - or lack thereof? Indeed, I'll even be so bold as to opine that the potential beneficiaries owe their poverty almost entirely to the Russian system of governance. On account of that, I think it's safe to assume (on the absence of any other proof) that the Holocaust references were included to pull on easily-tugged heartstrings, Jewish and Gentile alike. The problem being is that the money would only go towards assisting Jews, not Gentiles, which is unfair, if your emotions nudge you into reaching for your cheque book. Not once during that entire appeal did they ask Jews to send $25. Only Christians. Although, again, to be fair, it's up to you whether or not you donate. However, the emotional seeds have undeniably been planted in your conscience, all the same.
Although Pollard remains in prison, he is free to apply for parole as the American judicial system provides. In his arrogance, he has refused to do so, but insists on being granted clemency or a pardon. Not to mention he got a fair trial. Mordechai Vanunu was an Israeli nuclear technician who, citing his opposition to weapons of mass destruction, revealed details of Israel's nuclear weapons program to the British press in 1986. He was subsequently lured to Italy by a Mossad agent, where he was drugged and kidnapped by Israeli intelligence agents. He was transported to Israel and ultimately convicted in a trial that was held behind closed doors. He spent eighteen years in prison, eleven-and-a-half in solitary confinement.
And incase anyone's in any doubt, JStone's a hasbarat troll by his own admission:
