Is this what a patriot looks like?

So, apparently Matthew Livelsberger was a super "patriot". Patriotic because he posted "patriotic" messages on Facebook, patriotic because he served in the special forces and patriotic because he loved Trump.

A patriot loves their country. Matthew Livelsberger put a bomb in his car and tried to kill people, but for some reason failed, but still injured seven people.

Luckily he was less of a "patriot" than Timothy McVeigh who killed 167 people in Oklahoma. A war veteran like Livelsberger, and thought patriotism would take place by trying to make a revolution.

Had McVeigh been alive today, he'd have been posting pro-Trump stuff all over Facebook too, why? Because he was a "super patriot" too.
US patriotism is Jingoism, with hero syndrome.

I was reading up on why America perceives themselves as the world's police, everyone uses their military, and they've won every war for everyone. The funny thing is, patriotism is throughout the world, but the US is quite unique in theirs and their flag. Reason being? It's a very young country. So as the centuries pass, they might grow out of it and mellow.

There was a term that was used a long time ago, "the Ugly American".

It was used primarily by people in foreign countries to just describe what they saw. It wasn't about the dynamics of capitalism, or about our Constitution, or about America's place in the world. It was about who we are as a people. Our character. Jingoistic, brutish, shallow, loud, chauvinistic, simplistic. Needing to just grow up a bit.

We might be hearing that term again, before long.
