/—-/ The term "redskin" originated from Native American phrases that referred to themselves, combining the color red with terms for flesh or skin. Initially used in a benign context.
Ni**ger referred to slaves brought over from Niger and has always been offensive unless Blacks call each other that.

Bullshit! The origin of the word lies with the Latin adjective niger meaning "black", which is also why the country has that name. from the Niger River.

in German we differ ...

Indianer for American Indians
Inder for the People in India

but there is a discussion whether Indianer is politically correct

how is it in the US?
In baseball we call them Guardians for some reason. I wonder what the state of Indiana will call itself, Guardianana, Nativeamericanana?

It's a whacky world.

Indians is more generalized nowadays, since the influx of Eastern Indians.

It's more appropriate to say American Indian or Eastern Indian.

Or, you can use partial sign language..............
Just say Indian, but for American Indian use your hand to say "how". For Eastern Indian use your pointing finger and touch between your eyebrows.

It’s more just inaccurate than anything.

They’re not Indian. That was a mistake.

since the people of Europe did not generally know that the American continents existed, they mistakenly believed that if they sailed west, they’d eventually reach the “Indies” (a generic name for Southeast Asia as a whole back then)

As far as I know, many if not most native Americans have no problem with the term ‘Indian’. But ‘Native American’ is obviously more accurate.

‘Indian’ confuses them the actual Indian people of India. ‘American’ would just be confusing as well, since that word almost universally means “from the USA” to most people

So, saying ‘native American’ isn’t PC or woke. It’s simply more concise and clear as to who you’re actually talking about
