It's sad that you call yourself an atheist, and well it's because you seem to have a good sense about yourself so it really baffles the mind actually.

I was a Christian at one time for about ten years or so but drifted away for various reasons.

I went through a period of resentment of religion after that but eventually came to the realization that religion didn’t fail me, I just realized that everything that happened in my life was due to my own choices and actions. In other words, faith and prayer made no discernible difference that I could see.

At the same time I have strong convictions about authenticity, honor, integrity and honesty, among other things. This is why I readily recognize lying, hate and hypocrisy and why I see it on both sides.

Obviously I don’t view my atheism as sad but that’s because atheism is not who I am or what I’m about. It has no bearing on, for example, recognizing that mocking Charlie Kirk’s death was heinous even though I didn’t agree with everything he said.

I could go on and on but I think you get my point. I’m more at peace now and more comfortable in my own skin than I ever was as a Christian or a liberal (yes, I used to be a little left of center).

If "one" is to experience a personal struggle in one's life, and then seeks guidance through prayer, then the individual is to personally pray to God by going into the closet to pray as an individual seeking a one on one interaction with God, wherefore the prayer is done in earnest without distraction.... This is the correct manor in which to pray as individuals.

Praying as group's in public, otherwise acknowledging God and his grace is also appropriate to do as a group in the open forum.
