State election officials are looking into thousands of cases where registered voters may have voted in two states or after their reported death.

A report presented Wednesday by Elections Director Kim Strach to the Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee said 81 voters have a voter history later than the date of their death. The audit further identified 13,416 deceased voters on voter rolls in Oct. 13.

The information was found after DHHS provided more than 50,000 new death records to the State Board of Elections.

The audit showed 155,692 registered North Carolina voters whose first and last names, dates of birth and last four digits of their Social Security number match those of voters registered in other states, but who most recently registered or voted elsewhere.

A total of 35,750 voters with matching first and last names and date of birth were registered in North Carolina and another state, and voted in both states in the 2012 general election.

Another 765 voters with an exact match of first and last name, date of birth and last four digits of their Social Security number were registered and voted in the 2012 general election in North Carolina and another state.

"We have fraud and error vulnerabilities in our election system. The fact that we potentially have thousands of people voting in more than one state greatly concerns me,” said Rep. David Lewis, chairman of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee and the lead author of the Voter Identification and Verification Act.

A total of 28 states participated in the crosscheck, leaving data missing from 22 other states.

Many things like those two come in to play for the poor and in general, a good portion of those who are not even registered to vote, or even those who are registered, just don't vote.

Look at Ferguson.....it was in the news and on a couple of threads here about the citizens there not voting....something like 82% did not vote if memory serves?

Virtually NO ONE commits voter fraud by impersonating another person at the voting booth....it's just too darn hard to do and very risky, with 5 years in jail if caught.

Cheating and voter fraud is done through disenfranchisement of legal voters, it's done through electronic means, it's done through insiders, some with voter roll access perhaps but through absentee ballots, etc etc etc...oh yeah and it was done by the State itself for not removing dead people from the voter rolls, gerrymandering and none, absolutely none can be stopped by showing a gvt issued photo id at the voting place.... that the already cleared, registered citizen voter who has been voting, some cases for decades, couldn't be proven by having a recent pay stub and recent electric bill with name and address that match the person on the voter roll, showing that this IS who was legally registered.....

Apparently you are trying to make a distinction between a photo id and a "government issued id." To do almost all of what you have listed some sort of photo id is required. If i go fishing my state requires a license and a photo id be carried. I put voting above fishing being as having a photo id is not a problem for anyone in today's world.
