Short: Real history is much more complex than your simple "died". The Orient (East Rome, "the East") and the Occident (West Rome, "the West") are still today important factors. And somehow is every member of the western world also a member of the ancient Greek culture. (The lingua franka in the Roman empire was not English and not Latin but Greek: it was on its own a Greek culture). All people from the western world could say: "Under our skin we are all Greeks."
