We are left asking the obvious question.

Why did this God fearing couple choose to take over a church with $62m of assets rather than set up their own church ?

Why indeed ?

Having read the story it looks like the typical Irish grifters coming to the US and trying to steal from others.

Actually the congregation voted them in, and then sniveled about some stuff a week later. And, '$62 million in assets' isn't defined, probably just the real estate and buildings, not actual money. As an example, a Buddhist temple here bought a corner lot on a major intersection for chump change during the slump some years ago, along with the congregation itself doing the new buildings and landscaping, and now in the current bubble it's worth several millions and the locals are sniveling about 'the tax base n stuff'.

As for 'millionaire preachers', the majority get their millions from book publishers, not their churches; Joel Osteen for instance hasn't drawn a salary from his since 2005, and paid off over $40 million in construction bonds for Lakewood out of his own pocket. His net worth is around $100 million, which means he's given away some $300 million, going by just his book advances, which average $12 to $14 million up front for some 20-30 best sellers.

You can't relate to that, since nobody will pay a nickel for your thoughts.
