No coalition aircraft were ever shot down by Iraqi forces. Coalition forces responded to these attacks by taking out Iraqi air defense elements. That is a proportionate response. Full scale invasion is not a proportionate response.

NO one in this thread has ever claimed that Iraq was a good idea, some have tried to justify it by saying it prevented saddam from killing more of his own people, but no one has said that US involvement was a good idea.

In the end Saddam's lies about WMDs got him killed.

There was plenty of information that many intel agencies questioned as to its authenticity, but Bush refused to consider those. He cherry-picked only the intel that made a case for war. He even told the British government, that he was going to "fix the intel" around the policy in the Downing Street Minutes. And that's exactly what he went out and did.

Saddam's removal is top item of Bush's inaugural national security meeting. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill later recalls, "It was all about finding a way to do it. The president saying, 'Go find me a way to do this.'" [Date the public knew: 1/10/04]

In August 2001, Bush was told by the Dept of Energy that the aluminum tubes were for centrifuges, but Bush ignored this finding.

In Sept of 2001, British intel told US intel Curveball couldn't be trusted.

Bush was told on 9/21/2001, there was no connection between Iraq and 9/11.

And on 3/15/2002, British intel told Bush there is no evidence Hussein has WMD's.

British intel reports that there's only "sporadic and patchy" evidence of Iraqi WMD. "There is no intelligence on any [biological weapons] production facilities." [Date the public knew: 9/18/04]

That is just a few of the findings by the intel agencies that Bush deliberately disregarded and lied this country into a war.
