Show of force, show of fortitude, show of a willingness and ability to put boots on the ground, experience of doing so for the troops. On the job training for all the branches, amphibious, air, sea, ground troops. . . Future control and use of the island. . . . Draws IRG south away from the cities, thinning them out and making them vulnerable to protesters in the north. . . .

Lots of good strategy, training, and experience could come from it.
