If it reaches the local desalination plants we're talking real problems here folks.

I heard there had been a problem. I had to figure, one of two possibilities:

1. The Blockade has backed up Iran's oil storage facilities and the whole thing is falling apart. Iran is going to have to shut their wells down and they might lose 40% to 60% of their oil capacity in the future.
2. The oil spills are a deliberate sabotage by the Iranians just to be the big a-holes they are hoping to damage the whole region rather than give up being the total a-holes they are.

Iran's attacking the Gulf states didn't trigger a militsry response, but oil spilling towards desalinization plants is life or death, a major blunder by Iran. Now the US has military allies.

We shall see. ITMT, I would think a country like Saudi Arabia should have many options for getting water having seas on two of its borders. They should be able to get their water from the Red Sea if they are at all prepared.

If the Iranians would resort to such a tactic (which can't be out ruled) - why should they place a spill at Kharg's eastern coast? or anywhere around Kharg? - it would only make sense at or around the Hormuz narrow straits in case the USN or someone else's unfriendly naval units would try to enter or pass it. An intentional spill just to contaminate e.g. Saudi or UAE desalination plants - depending on changing currents (which are quite volatile due to tide driven currents in the Persian Gulf and around Hormuz), could just as well affect Iranian desalination plants.
