The Arab oil nations are shutting down their wells because they have run out of space to store crude oil. Even if the Strait was fully opened today, it would take a month or more for the full tankers currently anchored in the Gulf to go to their destinations and return. They'd then have to begin draining the full land-based oil storage tanks and take another month or two delivering it. Once the storage tanks are sufficiently drained to make the timing work, the Arab oil wells would begin pumping again but starting them back up takes days if not weeks.

In short, even if the Strait was fully opened today, it would take months for oil prices to begin to fall. Anyone who thinks they'll fall before the Midterms is a self-deluding idiot.

All Iran has to do is launch a few drones once or twice a week to keep the Strait closed. They don't have to hit US military bases again unless Trump begins actively bombing Iran again.
