I'm paying $500 a month on mine. Their bemoaning is more than justified. The cost of college has gotten out of control, but that is yet another problem caused by the government.

Specifically, they were pissing and moaning because financial aid was extended in the form of student loans instead of grants or work-study programs. I.e.: funds that do not obligate the recipient to repay them...in other words, free.
