I don't think that that's true. But I do think that the popular response would be VERY different. Hell, there were more people in the Million Man March than all the tea parties put together, and the Black Panthers used to walk around with assault rifles.

Whether or not it happened doesn't matter. If it did happen, then the guy who did it was an asshole. It doesn't mean that all the tea partiers are racists.

These arguments are all equally retarded - No one in their right mind could argue that everyone in the tea parties are racist, but no one in their right mind could argue that NONE of the tea partiers are racist.

I'm sure that some of them are - just like I'm sure that there are a few "welfare queens" in the world. But to claim that EVERYONE at the tea parties are racist is as retarded as claiming EVERYONE on welfare is a welfare queen.

the Black Panthers used to walk around with assault rifles.

And the FBI and police conspired to illegally surveil them, infiltrate them, disrupt and marginalize their movement, and murdered their members in cold blood and them framed it as self-defense (see: Murder of Fred Hampton). That's precisely what would happen if the Tea Party were a black movement.

That doesn't say much about the Tea Party itself really, but it is a nice illustration of white privilege. Conservative privilege too, since the anti-war left gets maced, clubbed, and arrested at peaceful protests while being unarmed and doing no more than carrying signs about ending violence by government while no one gets arrested or harassed at Tea Party protests while carrying guns and suggesting they use violence to bring down the government.
