I'm tired of anemic guitar amps!

Look at all that empty space.
Good news - I found out my chassis is actually aluminum.

I found a chassis mentor at a local machine shop. He's going to help me paint and label the front panel.

The problem with that is, the panel has to get done before the parts can go into it. Anything that's front mounted has to wait till the panel is ready. (Which so far is only one part, the HT fuse - unfortunately that's kinda necessary to turn the amp on lol). :p

Well, so far the heater wiring is done (all but the new tube, because I don't have the socket yet), and the HT part of the power supply will get done early next week (it could have been tomorrow but I ran out of 6/32 screws, so can't mount the cap cans till they arrive).

I'd like to refrain from mounting the transformers till most of the DC wiring is done in the audio chain. So that's plate, grid, and cathode resistors. (Because, putting those in usually exposes where the extra terminal strips need to be, and therefore where additional holes need to be drilled).

How come Stupid Google always changes my present tense to past tense? Stupid leftards must run that company ... :p

I'm looking at the speed nuts that hold the chassis in. Very nice, good idea. I need some of those.

How come all the #10 speed nuts are 10/24 and not 10/32?

I would imagine that it's because they aren't being used for anything more than holding it together. Finer threads would just mean more turns to do the same function, with not much functional advantage.

This thread inspires me to share the same on a (Strat) guitar build. Does anyone here have experience on that?

I always wanted to build a guitar (from scratch). Don't have the tools though. Know a little bit about pickups, and how to get rid of hum.

I'll be honest, mine is more of a gather and assemble effort. I bought a solid one-piece quilted maple body and birdseye maple neck from Warmoth.com about 15 years ago. Never went further than that.

I have been shopping pickups and been testing my ears to see if I could live with Noiseless pickups, but I can still hear tonal differences that make me prefer Texas Specials over any others with Bare Knuckles "Mother's Milk" pickups as a close second. Tone Specifics (Virgil Arlo's) are damn good too but very pricey.

Sweet! 👍

Have you heard of Ulyate?

I have a Bobcat Tele with Ulyate pickups, they're not exactly like the original but I like em anyway. They have a series switch that's totally fat, makes me sound like a Les Paul.

Ulyate started in the bass world, people started liking his pickups over Bartolini. I play a Form Factor Wombat 5-string bass with a Jazz/Music-Man set, the Jazz pickup is in the neck position and MM at the bridge, it's probably the single most useful bass I've ever had when it comes to gigging. With those two tones you have about 90% of rock music covered, and my P-bass is in the middle of the blend, it cuts mids and adds lows and that's the other 10%. :)

Oh, I want these for my TELE!

Well, here's a week's work. The heater wiring is in place, the AC wiring is in place, and the trannies are mounted.

Please don't think I'm picking at this, (it's looking great!) just an observation that caught my eye. I'm curious why you used a red (orange?) wire for chassis ground.
Because I ran out of green. :p

lol :lmao:

I can't afford to buy a 50' roll of wire just cause I need 6 inches. (I spent all my money on tubes). 🈶

LOL, I would have stripped an old power chord or something but, I also can't say I haven't resorted to far worse "work arounds." It's your amp too, so it's not like anyone else will be wrenching on it.

The manager at my last workplace demanded we wire control panels with blue 20Ga wire, exclusively. Most confusing and ugly crap ever. But, he was the boss.

You're a stickler for cosmetics? ;)

Don't worry, lots of cosmetics forthcoming. All that heater wiring will be perfectly shaped in another coupla weeks.

I'd kinda like to turn it on first before worrying about stuff like that. That's just me though, YMMV.

I know a guy, he's a foreman at an electronics fab, and he's always bitching about how no one pays any attention to quality any more. He says "I insist my guys clean the boards in the ultrasonic machine, twice, before we pot the assemblies".

I said, "wait a minute, you pot the whole thing? No one's ever going to see it?"

He got mad, for a minute I thought he was going to hit me. :p

It's complicated, I am very drawn to the aesthetics but I am also very much a MacGuyver and I'll use what I have available. (remember my subwoofer attempt.) What made me notice the Orange wire going to chassis, was that voice in my head of all my supervisors in my past - yelling at me for not knowing better. (Like the chassis would know or care what color it is connected to.)

Oh hell no and Oh hell yeah at the same time. The magnets on those pickups just destroyed on of my hopes for a patent idea. And the "Oh Hell Yeah!" wow! what a piece of art!

Mind if I ask what wood that is?
That is laser etched alder, with a rock maple fingerboard.
