‘I’m done.’ California’s proposed 2026 billionaire tax would’ve cost In-N-Out’s owner $435 million.

In and Out's billionaire owner, Lynsi Snyder, “just said, ‘I’m done.’” She’s moving to Tennessee, packing up her family, and leaving California behind after four generations of loyalty.

This wasn’t some outsider company that never cared about the state. In his telling, In-N-Out was the last true holdout, the most California brand you could think of, and now even that thread is being pulled loose.

What does it take to finally push out a person who inherited and expanded a business built in California, raised her family there, and stayed through decades of upheaval?

Harry Snyder and his wife Esther started with a tiny burger stand, basically “10 feet by 10 feet,” with no investors and no franchising plan.

It was a husband and wife selling burgers out of a window, with Harry building the first drive-through speaker box himself, calling it California’s first drive-thru.

They didn’t expand fast, didn’t cut corners, and kept the same basic approach for decades, from fresh beef to hand-cut fries.

Now Sacramento wants a piece of the action.

Her net worth is a bit north of 8 Billion so her "one time" tax bill would be around $435 million.....Yeah, I'd move too because you know it does not stop there.

funny how the lib mantra of "Fair share" keeps expanding

There's a nice recent article in The New Republic that makes a good argument against the wealth tax.

By the way, isn't Trump trying to get a piece of the action from some corporations? Or maybe he already did. I can't decide if that's a wealth tax or government owning a business.

Good ******* good bye. By the way, how do you know anything about California? You're just a MAGAhick from Virginia.

So what happens when any country or state exiles it's wealthy & wealth along with it? ~S~

Yeah, except it ain't funny if you live in CA. For sure the constitutionality will be challenged in court; chances are the conservative majority will strike it down, or parts of it. But if I was a rich guy or big corp I'd be leaving asap. Check that, I'd already been gone.

I don’t care where they are headquartered, I like their food, so I will continue buy a meal from them once every few months.

If a person wants to move their company to save money, then that is fine by me, you don’t want them to leave, change your tax laws, pretty simple stuff.

So you can't answer the question. Nobody saw that coming.
They can’t answer squat. That is why they are so pissed that smart companies are leaving. Government is greedy, money equals power, which equals control and I am willing to bet that California will make a law and try to make sure they get money from people that have left the state.

The remind me of the city of Seattle and all the games they play to try to separate their citizens from their money.

If all the billionaires leave, who's going to pay for your "free" health care for those millions of illegals in your state, not to mention all of the other social welfare benefits and programs?

California's elite are already footing the bill for over half of the state budget. Do you expect peasants like yourself to pick up the slack?

Spoiler for you okfine, because you're way too ******* dumb to answer this question. The answer is, YOU are going to pay for all the illegals' free shit once the rich people are all kicked out or leave.

Enjoy.

I think it was you who called my post fake news. So here's some of the details.

Under President Trump, the U.S. government acquired a nearly 10% ownership stake in Intel, making it a major shareholder, in exchange for converting previously allocated CHIPS Act funds into a direct equity investment, a move aimed at boosting domestic semiconductor manufacturing
. This unprecedented step turned U.S. government funds into direct ownership in a major tech company, a significant departure from typical government subsidies, though it's part of an aggressive strategy to secure critical tech industries.

Funny you should say that...

When I was in high school we'd get the In-N-Out bumber stickers and edit them prior to application...

Just like this (top = before, bottom = after):

And yes, we thought we were exceedingly clever...

It really is a shame. In-N-Out really is California, especially Southern California. They're not the best burgers I've ever had, they are damn good and I've had my share and more, but they are very much a SoCal cultural thing.

On the upside, the move to Tennessee and the opening of restaurants there is happy news to me. Prior to that, the closest locations for me were in Houston. With any luck, Ms Snyder will set her sights on points south and east...
