‘Ignore Guns, Talk Inflation’: Memos Show GOP Strategy After the Uvalde Massacre

‘Stay cool. Run out the clock. Scare some gun nuts while you can. But don’t worry: this moment will be over soon.

That’s the message the Republican Party, Donald Trump, and conservative leaders rapidly coalesced around after a series of mass shootings in recent weeks, including at one at a Texas elementary school.

Several strategy memos and private communications, prepared for a variety of conservative candidates and organizations, reviewed by Rolling Stone in the days following the Uvalde school massacre were clear: change the topic to literally anything else, and let this news cycle run its course.

“Ignore guns, talk inflation,” one such memo, written for a top-tier GOP Senate candidate, succinctly reads, citing polling data of voter concerns ahead of the critical 2022 midterm elections. Other documents predictably decried liberal desires for “gun-grabbing” and “gun confiscation,” and made whataboutism-type references to gun violence in Chicago.’

Run out the clock until November, of course.

With control of Congress next January, Republicans can ignore mass shootings, gun crime and violence altogether.
Speaking of "whataboutism" democrats are doing everything humanly possible to keep people's minds and discussions off of just how bad the economy is between now and election day.

Republicans are right not to get pulled off topic.

No shit, did you figure that out all by yourself. How many mass killings have you seen where 5 or 6 people are strangled to death by one man?

More of the same dumb ass talking points. Nobody is trying to take folks guns, folks are talking about military style weapons. Have you ever served? Have you ever seen what an M16 will do to a human body? Ask the parents of Uvalde or as the black families of the black folks who were gunned down in a grocery store in Buffalo, NY.

You're a boot licking idiot, plain and simple. How many black folks do you even associate with? Does your white husband allow you to even go around your family? Trump said he was going to stop the violence in Chicago and it would be done in a week and it would be easy, so much for that bullshit. Who is pumping the guns into Chicago and Baltimore? Who is pumping the drugs into the crime ridden cities as you call them? Do you even know anybody that lives in any of these cities?
Why Black Americans Are Buying More Guns: The people who bear the brunt of rising violent crime are taking steps to protect themselves.

Why are Democrats holding up two bipartisan bills that would actually address gun violence?

Because a mass school shooting is Christmas morning for them.....the dead kids are gifts under their gun control tree....

If they prevent mass public shootings, in particular mass school shootings, they would never be able to stampede uninformed Americans into giving them power to ban and confiscate guns....

So the Dem message is, let's talk about taking away 2nd Amendment rights from law abiding citizens and ignore the massive xiden inflation that is harming America and making people more poor?

Interesting game plan

You mean to tell me Lightfoot would let a Republican come in and fix Chicago's problems?
A fact based crackdown on criminals is unwanted by the voting block of those areas. That’s why conservatives can’t win there

Except that in 1700’s there were no tanks, bombs, ships for Individuals to utilize which is what it addresses
Rum dumb dummy apples to bazookas fails again.?
There were no AR15s, M16s, Machine guns either. Why shouldn't I be able to purchase a LAW or TOW it is considered as ARMS.

Word parser hard at work. Bless his little heart but no thinker and few emoters need a special distinction between guns and arms
