Route 66 would be my choice....whatever you do don't take the Lincoln Highway....it looks like a straight shot but its a no mans land from California to Nevada....

parts of 66 are pretty much gone i think . I'd make sure to carry some defense , maybe a 12 gauge pump exposed and strapped to your back pack . Good luck , sounds good . What kinda sleeping gear are you taking and are you using a wheeled device to carry your stuff [like an Indian TRAVOIS] Bear .
