I heard this woman being intervued on one of the 24/7's that had a book on the very top of the NT TIMES best seller list for the past 7 weeks....

Anyway, she told the host that Americans should NOT go out and spend their money as the gvt is suggesting...and she said if we get a stimulus check, we should save that also, because if you have a job now, doesn't mean you will have one a year from now.

GOOD ADVICE

so then the host says, WHAT, i thought it was important for consumers to start spending again?

And she said, paraphrased, "There are enough RICH PEOPLE in this country who do HAVE MONEY TO SPARE and SHOULD BE SPENDING their money in the economy, if they want to benefit and get richer, in the long run. She said, I NEED TO SPEND MY MONEY and my friends need to spend their money, but the middle class and the poor should not."

That the wealthy don't need a stimulus to have money to spend in the economy and they need to stop being tight wads and start spending some of it instead of hording it....

What do you all think about that.....should we save whatever stimulus we get and should the wealthy with alot of excess money start spending some of it instead of hording it?

you're not gonna get a stimulus check like last year no.1, but she is right at this point people are not going to spend what they get. they're going to savie and at this point they should.

but what about the people that do have alot of money to spare? Do you think she is also right on that too, and they should go out and spend some of their money to help the economy? buy the wife a new diamond necklace and the guy another bigger flat screen and the woman a pair of Prada pumps and the teen son the new mustang convertible, after the weekend in Scottsdale Arizona at the Marriot Golf Resort?

The rich don't have spending patterns like the rest of us. I think for many of them money is a sort of totem and it has totemic value. The point is in the acquisition and maintenance of wealth as part of their self-identity. Spending it isn't really central to their whole worldview. That's why, essentially, the rich are useless to an economy :eusa_eh:

Yep tell that to people who build their mansions, and luxury cars, and Yatchs, and cater to there needs, be there nannies, cooks, drivers, servants, people who cater to them on vacations at resturants.

Yep all that is useless to the economy. Absolutely typical Liberal rubbish.

The Rich not only spend money, the rich provide work for the poor. Not all of us want to live in your world with no rich people. Because as we all know. You can not make the whole world equally rich, but you can make them all equally poor.

the rich are useless to the economy. To funny.

Freaking socialists.

Buy a fucking sense of humour, right wing ideological nutbar.

We need to get that money back from the rich hoarders and spread it around so we can buy mansions, lots of cars, employ nannies (nannies will not get all the money the rest of us get otherwise they won't work for us), luxury boats, helicopters, private jets and all the other good toys! See, the hoarders are stopping the economy being driven by a return to consumerism because they're keeping all the money!

Either that or we could hunt them down, kill them and eat them. Their choice

Consuming is not what makes an economy go. Savings and producing does.

We had a high savings rate, at one time, and that yielded high salaries and high standard of living during the 20th century, but since we've decided to squander away our wealth buying toys from China, we will have nothing but a decline in the standard of living.

did you ever think that some people have money to spare because they don't just spend indiscriminantly?

I think Im just going to take myself out of the taxpaying pool and move off to the mountains, be self sufficient, and run away from govt. I just don't feel compelled to pay for this criminal manifesto.

What is rich? I grew up in a rather wealthy area. We were 'poor' compared to those that were our friends. No summer vacations, my parents bought a vacation home when both my brother and I were married. They did it for the grandchildren, they would have for us, but didn't have the cash then.

I recognize now, well years ago, that I was privileged. No problem going to college, even if my dad did lose his job in the 70's. There were trials, some of which I've shared, but we'll put them aside for now.

We had a very nice home, summer home too, with lake and boats, yes multiple, skidoos, etc. As I said, above the norm. Also as I said, below most I knew that had had vacations in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. No, not my folks. Enough money though that when my mom got sick, my dad could move her in with me/with 24 hour nursing for several years. Then to a nursing home for the last year, when she became too sick. But a 5 star one, my mom would have been horrified to find that her last 3 years on earth cost nearly a million dollars. She had made it clear she wanted no extraordinary means, he respected that, but she was a fighter, in hospice care for 3 years.

My dad got sick a few years later, cancer. He called all the shots, unlike my mom while also a living will, he was much more in control. He did chemo while it worked. Refused radiation. Went out with his friends the weekend before he died. Once in the hospital for the last time, less than 48 hours. He left with $12k after the funeral/wake he'd pre-planned. He'd spent all his money on his wife and a bit on himself. He'd been 'rich' I guess, with the confines of the definition.

He never traveled, other than to Europe for D-day, FL after 60. I'm sort of confused on what punishment someone like my folks should have faced?

Okay I've checked my Handbook for the Commissariat. It says your folks were not "rich" in the sense of "these people need to return their wealth to the rest of the populus". The Handbook describes "rich" as "having so much money they couldn't possibly spend it in five lifetimes of really hard effort at getting rid of it".

Yes of course!

But, according to this woman who has loads of money and along with her friends that have loads of money, says that she and her friends need to follow:

This is the time for all good men(women) to come to the aid of their country....

And spend some of their money and NOT put this all on to the people that don't have money, to spend and get this economy going....

i don't think she is talking about ANY ONE on this board....i don't think you or others are type of Rich she was talking about....

spend it now and you wont be taxed as much later down the road when this whole thing fails and we owe the chinese our lunch and dinner....PLUS, you get to own things with this kind of spending or have a good time on holiday with this type of spending...vs just handing it over to the gvt, later down the road.... :) open a business if you don't want to spend the money for play....but for God's sake, spend some of that load of yours...you know what they say...you can't take it with you when you die...
