Result of crappy response and no leadership. Other countries have controlled it much better. The wealthiest country in the world with the most expensive healthcare and we have the most deaths.
No other country except China has as many people as we do- for starters. Secondly, China's "controlling" it is what?
It amazes me that TDS is responsible for so much maliciousness- it doesn't surprise me, but, it does amaze me- it goes hand in hand with the country wide ignorance ingrained from Public Education and validated by the talking head celebrity wanna be's pretending to be something they ain't- twice. 1), smart/higher educated, and 2) objective.
China has not only “controlled” Covid-19, which took it by surprise when little indeed was known about it. China has
ended all domestic transmission. All students are attending school there, factories open, even in Wuhan. I never expected the U.S. to adopt similar measures to succeed, to adopt the tough
temporary measures China adopted, which
worked.
Even under a DemocratIc President we would not have been able to do what China did. Every mobile phone in the country was used for rough GPS locating, notifying, confirming quarantines, confirming right to travel, access planes and buses and even entering supermarkets, subways, etc.
This “invasion of privacy” allowed an infinitely more effective and flexible tracing and quarantining system, one which the vast majority of citizens accepted acquiescently, having higher public and collective consciousness, more experience fighting epidemics, and more willingness to sacrifice. In the end the whole situation was essentially cleared up in three or four months, while essential workers kept the country functioning.
We as a nation will undoubtedly survive this pandemic, which after all very fortunately has a low fatality rate and seems to spare the young and healthy. But
as a society we have shown (and still show) little ability to handle subtle dangers that are not just “black and white,” little ability to collectively pull together in a crisis, and have resorted to simplifying, politicizing and even scapegoating.
