Most people think the House just votes and whomever they decide becomes the President. Not quite the case. If it is just 2 people with any EVs, it's pretty easy. Three people (Bloomberg or Sanders or X) and it gets really complicated.
The House votes by State delegation. It takes 26 states to win. Currently there are 33 majority red delegations with 14 blue delegations and 3 are tied. The Dems would have to win all of the tied ones and get 9 red delegations to flip to reach 26.
Not going to happen---I don't think.
All of the 3 EV states have 1 person who will make the choice. There are 5 states that have 1 Republican House Member (AK, MT, ND, SD, WY). If Trump continues to violate Conservative principles and act up, he could alienate these folks.
The rules also state that if there is a tie in the delegation, no vote is casted by that State so delegations with 2 or 3 red seats may be out of the running as well (ID, NE, NV).
I doubt that will happen.
But if the GOP "establishment" is set on defeating Trump and they get their chance....who knows?
Its also helpful to point out that there is no limit to the ballots the House casts meaning that they can vote several times a day, every day up until 1/20/17.
