No problem. We got married in a Christian wedding ceremony a decade before we could marry legally. It's funny that anyone would think that getting rid of legalized marriage and going to religious weddings only would stop gay marriage.

Answer the question, why should the state be involved in marriage? Why do you want Big Brother in the bedroom?

Does a legal marriage put Big Brother in the bedroom? So they check to see if someone is actually consummating their marriage now?

Don't act like marriage and sex are not related. Those who have sex routinely under the law are often treated as if they are married even though they are not..

Who cares if you are having sex? We are all now secular humanists. Sex is just a stupid body function like taking a dump on the commode don't ya know.

I appreciate your desire to get government out of marriage. What have you actively done to make that happen?

I sent my local legislator a million dollars and I sent Obama another million and set up an activist group to fight for no more special rights for anyone.

Most importantly, people would be forced to work out break ups between themselves.

Paternity - Every state has what are called "assumed parentage laws", if a couple is married and a child is born they are both assumed to be the legal parent. With no marriage that law wouldn't function anymore. Men would then have to adopt their own children - a process that can take months and cost thousands of dollars.

Bankruptcy - Handled through bankruptcy court. Each responsible for assets in their own name. The court to determine disposition of assets in both names.

Inheritance - With no marriage there will be no spouse in the order of precedence in the absence of a will. With no spouse then any assets owned by the deceased will go to the parents, siblings, or other near kin.
