What is removed is loose skin. The nerve ending in the head are undamaged. Even gently blowing air on the head can set a man to quiver.
It causes less infections or urinary problems in female and the male. WHO has recommended circumcision.
There are even non-surgical devices to circumcise the foreskin.
Those who do it for religious purposes will continue with the old proven ways but it is safe and easy for any man now.
There are medical cases where a man might not be able to have sex until the foreskin is removed. Those prone to urinary or kidney problem as a boy are better after a circumcision.
Most of those who get infection or die is because a dirty piece of glass or flint is used and the area is not cared for properly, not because of the procedure itself. It is so much easier to have an infant circumcised and to care for it for a few days then to way till the boy is aware and afraid, and perhaps does not keep it as clean for the few days as he should.
In the middle east it is common place for boys or men to be circumcised. I through it odd when I found out not all men in American are. A lot do, but not all.
It is easier and faster than neutering a male animal, which is fast and easy.
When men began wearing clothes the foreskin was no longer needed.
If you are afraid of being cut, there are clamps and rubber bands methods now instead. The skin is folded back, the blood circulation is cut off and the skin falls off on it's own in a few days.
