The authorities are tracking down and arresting violent anarchists

It will take time to see if that will curb the violence, but at the very least we are separating the anarchists from peaceful protestors who are simply misinformed

Look.... I do have some sympathy for your position. And I will admit to you right now that there is something of a slippery slope in this issue. Well trained police officers probably shouldn't respond to something that's trivial as a verbal slight. They may however determine in a rioting atmosphere especially that a person who is bold enough to become verbally insulting in public may be a trigger point for further problems.

I have personally experienced what I consider to be abuse by several law enforcement officers over the years. One specifically who I believe was steroid crazed. Few years back the FBI came into our city and drug tested the force and resulting in dozens of dismissals. I can say it was warranted.

By and large however I find that the local police are simply guys out there trying to do their job and in my municipality that could mean they don't go home at night. I do my best to support their efforts and respect their space.
