I was pleased by the large demonstrations against Trump, and more pleased that they were peaceful and orderly.

During the War in Vietnam many anti war demonstrations were violent and disorderly. In my humble opinion those angered many voters, and provoked them to vote for hawks who prolonged the War in Vietnam.

What matters is who turns up for the next election and how they vote. If there are black ghetto riots, I hope Democrats have the sense not to express sympathy for the rioters, as many did in 2020.

Partly. But the Russians were going broke trying to supply the Vietnmaese communists with weapons and ordnance. And most of what they sent over-land to the North got stolen by the Chinese. Or had the guts stripped out of it. MiG-21's for example. The Chinese would literally gut them before they got to the North Vietnamese.

The Viet Nam War is what took down the USSR. Ronald Reagan pushed them over the edge.

The story of the 1968 Tet Offensive is; the North talked the Viet Cong (the southern faction) into an uprising. They attacked 155 Villages and Hamlets. 155. Believing that The People would rise up with them, that the (A)RVN Army would join them, they attacked. Hard.

Tens of thousands died but not in one instance, not at any time, did one Village or town get take by the communists, not once did the local authorities, the Army or The People join them.

Viet Nam fell to a superior conventional force. After we left. Every American soldier was gone. One of the biggest invading forces in human history took down the South.
