The former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, whose false statements about the 2020 election were part of a lawsuit against the network, was confirmed as the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
Ms. Pirro has been serving as interim U.S. attorney, and the Senate voted 50 to 45 on Saturday to formalize her role, with all Democrats present opposed.
President Trump picked Ms. Pirro after he was forced to pull his first choice, the interim U.S. attorney Ed Martin, under pressure from Senate Republicans who were uncomfortable with Mr. Martin’s willingness to investigate Democrats, academic institutions and critics of Elon Musk while seeking to dismantle and delegitimize the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot inquiry.
Ed Martin, the previous lackey in line for the job, had his name pulled from consideration. He was so bad even Repub senators who just confirmed the colossally unfit Emil Bove could not bring themselves to support him.

Now Ed works in the DoJ in a position that doesn't require confirmation.
Trump lauded Martin on Truth Social on Thursday evening, saying that he “has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney” and that he would be appointed associate deputy attorney general and pardon attorney and that he would direct a “weaponization working group” at the Justice Department.
A guy who disqualified himself by being so hyper partisan even Repubs couldn't stomach him is now in charge of something called a "weaponization working group." IRONY ALERT!
Ms. Pirro was among the Fox hosts named in a lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems for questioning the validity of ballot tabulations on Fox’s broadcasts. Fox settled the case and was forced to acknowledge that claims about Dominion advanced by Ms. Pirro and others were false.
The president has also proved to be a reliable ally of Ms. Pirro. In 2021, in the final hours of his first term, Mr. Trump pardoned Ms. Pirro’s former husband — and Mr. Trump’s onetime lawyer — Albert J. Pirro Jr., who was convicted of conspiracy and tax evasion charges in 2000.
Only the best people.
