I have a question on the Subsidy with Obama care?

Yes! Everyone who buys insurance on the exchange is such an idiot! They will all be shocked by how much the thing that they bought will cost them!
I submit the idiot is the one who makes such a broad-brush claim like this about millions of people with very diverse financial and health situations.

Or....the idiot could be the one who completely misses the sarcastic tone of a certain liberal forum member.

Happy New Year.

Ok say a person was making 20 grand a year and pick the Bronze plan. It cost say $500 bucks a month. But with a subsidy from Obama it only cost that person say $80 bucks a month.

So my Question is does that person have to pay $500 bucks a month for an entire year and gets all that money back the next April 15th? ??????

Or are they going to audit him every month.. Say In May he had a job making 25 grand a year then in August he switched jobs and now is making 40 grand a year??? And then in February he switches jobs again and now only makes 12 grand a year?

I don't get it...

They pay 80 per month. The gov't pays the rest. The subsidy is based on the previous year's reported AGI.

Although if i understand correctly you may have to pay the subsidy back if your circumstances change during the policy year.

So for example if you made that 20k in 2013 but get a great new job in 2014 with a much higher salary there is a look back and you can have to give some or all of it back . At least thats my understanding.

Has anyone in this discussion actually used Healthcare.gov to sign up for health insurance? Just wondering.

Thought I'd add a bit of info. As others here have said, you pay only the difference between your premium and the subsidized amount, and over/underpayments can be settled when you file your taxes for 2014.

BUT when you sign up at healthcare.gov, they tell you that you must send proof of income by around the end of March, and that may result in changes to your subsidy or in you losing it. So you can't just estimate and settle up; you have to provide proof.

And don't think you can grab a couple months of medical care before you lose your "affordable" health insurance, because most doctors aren't giving new patient appointments for months. Didn't all this start so old ladies wouldn't have to live on cat food in order to pay for their prescriptions? Well, they may as well eat real food, because they won't be able to see a doctor to get a prescription, let alone afford one now that the co-pays are higher than ever.... [sorry, I know that turned into a rant]

oh dear God Bear513.....

DO NOT sign up for a Bronze Plan if you only make $20k, you NEED a Silver Plan....ONLY the Silver Plans would give you Cost Sharing Reductions....CSR will reduce ALL of your related expenses....it reduces your co pays, it reduces your deductibles, it reduces your out of pocket expenses and emergency room fees and on and on and on and on.....

YOU JUST LOST OUT on the help you really need making only 20k by choosing a Bronze plan!!!!

sigh....it's so frustrating hearing and seeing all of these lower income people who really DO NEED HELP with their Health Care costs, NOT getting the help that IS AVAILABLE specifically for them....

Those Navigators at the call center should be FIRED if they did not lead you in to a Silver Plan which gives you the Cost Sharing Reductions in addition to premium help....that you NEED with making only the 20k!!!!

(My heart and stomach can not take much more of this....):eusa_pray:

the problem being: you pay low for silver but you get outrageous deductible and still have to pay percentage of bill after you meet the high deductible.

The government technically advances one the subsidy. But then, if one ends up making more money, one will get slammed with having to pay it back.

Hopenchange!

NO, NO AND NO...SIMPLY NOT TRUE....you don't pay low for the silver plan, it is a more expensive plan with better coverage than a Bronze plan and the Cost Sharing Reductions for low income people on the silver plan PAYS for the HIGH deductibles and pays for the high out of pocket expenses...and pays for prescriptions and emergency room costs, and hospitalization and Doctor's visits are free even specialist vistits for the low income individual. Max out of pocket for the whole year can be as low as $200, NOT the $6300!

this is IN ADDITION to the subsidy paying for the monthly premium.

Cost sharing Reductions, if you are low income, brings the Silver Plan to a Gold or Platinum Plan level with no expense to the individual.

deep breath and another sigh............:(

I have silver. 150.00 monthly premium. 3000.00 deductible.
Till I meet the deductible Insurance pays nothing.
You have Obamas lie. I have reality.

No, she's correct. Federal subsidies for premiums and cost sharing for co-pays and deductibles are only available in silver plans. Subsidies for premiums are available for all plans but only silver plans allow for federal subsidies in deductibles and co-pays and only for qualified individuals (low income families).

Here is my advice for young people.

Do not sign up for Obamacare. Sign up for a $35.00/ month health club membership instead. Exercise 3-4 days a week for about 45 minutes. Stop smoking and cut back on all sugar.

Save the money you would be throwing down the toilet in useless insurance premiums and invest it in an equity index fund. In a few years you'll effectively be "self insured".

If you get sick- pay cash. You'll be amazed at how little you actually utilize "healthcare services" when you are paying cash.

If you are diagnosed with something "catastrophic"- then sign up for Obamacare.

PS- if you are worried about the "tax" - don't be worried. There are literally hundreds of loopholes. For instance if you receive a "shut off notice" from a utility company- you are exempt from the "tax".

so under obamacare insurance companies will reap enormous amounts of premiums from healthy people.
Fines from people who do not buy insurance will go to insurance companies in subsidies. so Obama has given insurance companies a law to rape us.

What part is not true this is now what I have. I use to go to the doctor and just pay 20.00 and meds were 7.00 before Obamacare. so what is not true?

You get lots of medical services covered prior to meeting the deductible.

You had insurance before? What was the plan name?

One has to wonder the effect whining has on the right wing naysayers in America? Does it eventually cause the crippling disease know as 'cranky faced lost depressed person syndrome?' Maybe they had it all the time? I wonder if the rich will support their required therapy or are they more useful just the way they are?
