The definition is pretty clear. I don't see what the argument is. You want to create a new definition, take it up with Webster. LOLsemitic and antisemitic have two different definitions, why do you guys lie so much?Soooo you're admitting that "anti-Semitic" means what it says, and not "anti-Jew", but advising we should go on misuing it ---- even after we know better?
"When the known facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir"?
Again, the origin of this question was he observation by the OP:
--- with which sentiment I agree ............ because we know what "Semitic" actually means, therefore we appreciate the irony. It ain't rocket surgery.
Definition of ANTI-SEMITIC
Definition of anti–Semitic
- : relating to or characterized by anti-Semitism : feeling or showing hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a cultural, racial, or ethnic group anti-Semitic statements/rhetoric … his critics charge he is anti-Semitic and anti-black, allegations that he denies. — James M. Perry
See if you can work it out --- what does the prefix "anti" mean?
Now what does the word "Semitic" mean?
See above post. If not obvious, lather, rinse repeat.
No need to. Webster's writ by humans; it can be wrong too.
The definition of anti is established and clear. It means against.
The definition of Semitic is established and clear; it means a language family, and has nothing to do with religion.
Therefore the only thing "anti-Semitic" can possibly mean is being against a particular language family. One that includes both the Arabic and the Hebrew languages along with a few others. None of which express any idea of the speaker's religion.
So if some wag tries to coin it as specific to Jews --- he's what we call "wrong". You should stop indulging him already. Oy.
The fascinating thing is that you do have a clip of video going (vide video)
And that is exactly how you respond to facts.
Never mind to you what Marr meant and why, here is a history which will explain how much he loved Jews, and why he joined those two words together.
Not everything which "sounds" clear, is clear as you put it in Your definition of the two words.
Wilhelm Marr - Wikipedia
I really don't give a **** what Marr "meant". If he meant "anti-Semitic" to refer to Jews, then he's wrong, because that doesn't work. On multiple levels. Therefore the misdirected definition may be dismissed out of hand.
Simple as that.
