I asked AI about my nightime leg cramps.

I get leg cramps at night. I am 78 and have been riding my bicycle 40 miles a day. I ride that many miles because I discovered long ago that anything less doesn't do much. I went to AI and asked about my leg cramps. I told the machine that I drink filtered water and it told me that is not a good idea because minerals and elctrolites are absent for the most part. I also told it that I take a multi vitamin and Co Q10. It said ok with that but recommended that I stagger them at different times because one will possibly nullify the other. I told the machine that I ride every day and it told me to try every other day to enhance recovery. It said I could ride 50 miles every other day and add a pinch of salt to my water. I get the same result now with fewer leg cramps. I am 5'5 and weigh 130 pounds. I did what the machine said and have not gained weight and still have some cramping but they are less severe. I like AI at the moment.

Is it in your calfs? (calves?)

Eat a nanner before bed.
 
When I stretch I get them in various places-calves, inner thighs, even lower leg.
When you stretch? Interesting. I have been getting occasional severe cramping in my calfs since Basic Training in the Army, when I was required to run and carry heavy packs in boots. Severe in that the muscle seemed to go concave and hard. They would wake me up at night and I had to grab the balls of my foot and stretch.

Sometimes when I kneel during physical activity, I get cramps in my hamstrings. I have been working on stretching my hamstrings for about 8 months, as part of working out to fulfill a New Year's Resolution. But I have gotten these hamstring cramps before and since.

I had those and I started taking "old people" vitamins and it went away, I can't even remember the last time I had a leg cramp.

I think I'll try that. I have some men's daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplements, but have been taking them sporadically. I'll take them daily until they run out and then switch to old folks supplements.
 
They sell these at Walgreens, I get leg cramps from walking/cycling and I have been looking for these (looked yesterday) but none of the stores had them, and most employees had no idea where in the store they are supposed to be.

Leg cramps at your age is a sign of circulation problems.

I'm surprised it didn't identify potassium.

Whenever I have cramping problems I just increase my consumption of bananas and potatoes.

I'm not anywhere near as active as you, but that always solves the problem when it rears its head.

I just looked and they are all over eBay.

That's were I get most OTC stuff. Much cheaper than schlepping to a store.
