There are a number of possibilities to explain this course of action but the thirst for justice isn't one of them.

The real crime is the Biden family getting rich off selling Biden's political influence but nobody is going to charge Hunter with that because it will implicate "The Big Guy".

The timing of this is highly suspicious. DOJ is protecting Joe.

DOJ could have indicted Hunter with these charges months ago.

Hunter and Jim were recently subpoenaed by Comer to testify about their obvious financial crimes, and now they have a great excuse to not show up or to take the 5th due to the related ongoing investigation.
