“Huge Problem”: The Pentagon’s Rapid Wartime Response Cargo Ships Are Trapped in Baltimore After Bridge Collapse

29 Mar 2024

Two high-speed military cargo ships are stuck in the Port of Baltimore following Tuesday morning's collapse of the 1.6-mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge. The major US East Coast port has been paralyzed for several days as the bridge collapse prevents inbound and outbound vessel traffic along the harbor's channel.
Using the automatic identification system, or AIS, data that tracks commercial vessels, three bulk carriers, two general cargo ships, one vehicle carrier, one tanker, and four Ready Reserve Force vessels (RRF), along with the container ship Dali that struck the bridge, are trapped in the harbor, according to the shipping blog gCaptain.
According to the military blog The War Zone, (TWZ), Algol class vessels are “some of the fastest cargo vessels of their general size anywhere in the world.” These ships are part of the RRF, a subset of vessels within MARAD’s National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) that provide surge sealift capability to the Pentagon for overseas conflicts.

The current readiness of the RRF fleet is unknown. And just like that, part of America's RRF fleet was taken out not by a missile or suicide drone, but a container ship that allegedly suffered a catastrophic 'electric issue'. America's enemies are taking note.
Certainly, the thought of a Black Swan operation is not within the thoughts of Americans, but would our own elected government or our enemies be capable of doing such things?
We must keep in mind that; “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.”
As we've been told main times before, nothing to see here....just coicidence...we’re all just paranoid....everything is alright and normal
Watching all this occur, the collapse of our infrastructure and now failing military capability... it’s like I’m back in college reading the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

That's a good thing because they would only get people killed at this point

We have the biggest navy in the world, by far. I’m sure we’ll be fine
those fast ships are nice, but msc has a squadron stationed in nearly every decent harbor.

we have 2. if the marine log shows a departure for cape kennedy or cape knox its a pretty good indication that something is going on.

the girls on the riverfront all read the marine log. they call it the "seafood menu."

Are you pretending to have a point again? Reason Number #1 is economic activity has been shifting south for a while now, so infrastructure needs to follow economic need. A new port built for modern shipping, rail, and trucking is a necessity.
In other words: you have no idea. You are mouthing words because you like the sound but have no idea what they mean. You don't know that you don't know what you don't know.

Just build a new modern port for these giant ships away from dumbasses who build unnecessary bridges over major shipping channels already. This is a great opportunity to do so.
Unnecessary bridge? Freight now has to go the long way around the Baltimore Beltway, adding dollars to every load.

You have some weird idea Baltimore is still necessary. It isn't. How many loads is it running now? Think shipping on the east coast has stopped? It hasn't, it's been re-routed to other ports, ones that aren't stupid enough to run major interstates across a port entrance that isn't equipped to handle modern ships efficiently.

We’re talking about the bridge and trucking, shortbus! :rolleyes-41:

No, you're just changing the subject, is all. That's because you have nothing. The bridge is down because it;s a port, stupid, and it got hit by a large ship. It's in all the news sites, you should try to keep it in mind.Stop smoking weed. There are roads all over the U.S.; freight doesn't need to go through Baltimore and interstate highways don't need to be built across port entrances.

Or maybe you just don't know trucking is shipping; that would be about par for you.

No, I didn’t change the subject. YOU said the bridge was unnecessary.

add rail and coastal shipping and you've got "intermodal containerized logistics"

there are computers that are fairly good at moving conex boxes.

makes ya wonder about those "supply chain" problems a few years ago ?

No, I didn’t change the subject. YOU said the bridge was unnecessary.

But you said we were talking about the bridge; having trouble keeping track of your usual 'I Touched You Last!!!' gimmick, are you?

It is unnecessary, as anybody who knows how to find a map can easily see. They can also find plenty of places to build a new port with trucking and rail facilities as well.

English, please! That didn’t sound like much of an apology. :dunno:

No wonder there; out-sourcing and too few producers and shipping companies in the businesses. The JIT gimmick has chronic shortages built into the logistic system; nobody stockpiles anything for emergencies any more, so even small glitches create shortages. They're artificial. Companies don't care, they love excuses to gouge consumers anyway; it increase profits. In fact they've now made it their standard business model now. Similar to when the fake energy crisis had everybody jacking up their prices, even when they didn't have to. The public just gave up and paid anyway, same as they do now.

You meant to say you can't think of any reason I'm wrong, but you need to babble anyway. Okay.
If you have those hallucinations regularly, see a good lobotomist.

Yet you cannot name a single one of those places! Youi have no idea what you are babbling about and you prove it every time you spew ignorance.

Yet you can't up with anything that proves me wrong. You realy think there is no place on the entire east coast where a port can be built? Talk about needing a lobotomist.

This should be a wake up call on the logistics of military craft.
