DOGE would look a lot better and cut a LOT more things if we had a majority fiscal conservatives in the Republican party now days.

How Would Milton Friedman Do DOGE?

In a 1999 Hoover Institution interview, economist Milton Friedman was asked which federal agencies he would abolish. As host Peter Robinson rattled off the Cabinet list, Friedman gave a blunt verdict on most: "Abolish." Departments of Agriculture and Commerce? "Abolish." Education and Energy? "Abolish." Housing and Urban Development? Gone. Labor? Gone. Transportation? Gone. Even Veterans Affairs, he argued, could eventually be eliminated (with veterans compensated in other ways).

By the end of this exercise, Friedman had effectively reduced 14 Cabinet departments down to about 4.5. The only agencies he'd clearly keep were those handling essential duties like defense, justice, foreign affairs, and treasury functions—the minimal state required to protect the nation and uphold the law.

Fast forward to 2025. The Trump administration too wants to

The world is a lot more complex than it was in 1999.
I'd be happy if DOGE can "right-size" it, getting back to about 2.5m, unless there are "efficiencies that could take the total even lower.

IMHO Musk can easily cut 500,000 Federal employees without any loss of functionality.

Trump says a lot of things. He got elected by saying things like how he was going to balance the budget. And now the first CR comes up, and he's going to sign it, even though it spends more than even Biden's last CR.

Trump is in office about a month. Republicans have a tiny majority, it will be tough getting major spending cuts approved, there is always someone whose district gets the cuts.

The democrats can shove some over spending POS bill down the throats of republicans, with a simple, small majority.
If the RINO's in congress weren't so weak, they could ram spending cuts bill down the throats of the democrats, with a small simple majority.

The GOP has the white house, senate and house. No more excuses.

It is easier said than done when you only look at the benefit side of the equation and not the cost side of it I suppose. Either way, DOGE will be gone comewhat May when Elon is forced to leave the government when his special employee status ends, if not sooner.

The "problem" with DOGE is that it has the potential to vaporize 99% of the Democrat Leadership and probably 85%+ of the Republican Leadership

Musk has 17 more months and will leave new infrastructure in place guaranteeing transparency

None of the doge cuts will be included in the CR.

And you will continue funding the same crap you were funding before, on Tater's watch.

Because, oh noes, the government will shut down. Rinse and repeat. It's the same old crap.

Milton Friedman has been completely debunked as an economist. There are many who believed he should be tried for crimes against humanity, given that everywhere his policies were implemented, resulted in the mass murder or "disappearing" of leftist opposition.

Every nation where Friedman's "capitalism on steriods" has been tried, has resulted in increased prices, increased poverty, and attacks on leftists.

The CR that the House will pass this week to avoid a shutdown will not cut one fucking dollar from spending.

Does that give you a clue what the next budget will look like?

Podesta has $375b in his account
Stacy Abrams has $2b in hers
Zeldin found $20b in the EPA that can be saved.

That is $400b in low hanging fruit that DOGE found, yet no one is doing anything to recover it?????

I'm all for cutting government spending. As long as they don't waste money on other BS stuff. The only way to save money, is to not spend it.
Trump & Johnson are going to waste any savings they find on other BS stuff. Like renewing the contracts Biden signed with Elon & NASA.

Friedman is the guy who really gave neoliberalism (though he never referred to himself as a neolib) a large push forward during the Reagan years, it all began with his "Free to choose' book, him and Ayn Rand and her objectivism crap. I read the book and agreed with much of it at the time, but as time progressed, I slowly realized it's conclusions were flawed.
