Can we assume that Yeltsin wouldn't turn to Russia's nuclear weapons. Or rather, Russia's military would have given Yeltsin his bullet, and then taken over?

It worked for the entire world. Hundreds of millions in Eastern Europe were freed from Soviet oppression.

He doesn't. The higher income earners subsidize the lower income earners when SS is collected.

The fact is, you cannot 'punish' the rich in any way for their wealth without hurting the poorer people much more.

I remember when George H.W. Bush broke his 'no new taxes' pledge--it cost him the 1992 election--when he agreed to tax rich man's toys such as high end jewelry, yachts, private planes etc. in return for the Democrats' promise to cut spending.

We never got the spending cuts but the taxes just caused the rich to go elsewhere for their toys. The U.S. boat building industry was decimated with tens of thousands of employees laid off, the private plane manufacturing was set reeling, and most of our high value jewelry was off shored to places like Grand Cayman. The taxes were fairly quickly reversed due to the disastrous effect of them, but the damage had been done.

And we are reminded again that those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

Very true. Rich people don't build the things they are able to buy. And once bought many of them are high maintenance money pits. Even those fancy yachts are rented out for ocean cruises and dockside events most of the time to lower the cost of ownership.

The secret is in throwing billions of dollars at the working class. The debt blows the secret. Socialism comes around to bite your asses if it's carelessly applied.

But the main point is, the socialist way is to spend more money on the middle class, while the Capitalist way is Supply side economics. Or Reaganomics.
