Why didn't kids read more during the Covid schools shutdown?

Interesting article from the other day: try the WayBack Machine if one must

The new data provides the first national comparison of school districts through 2025, and offers a detailed picture of how individual school districts have performed over time. It underscores that many districts have experienced a long-term slump in student achievement, not just a blip during the pandemic.

Why U.S. Test Scores Are in a ‘Generation-Long Decline’

The drops go beyond the pandemic and cut across income, geographic and racial divides, new data shows.

Something troubling is happening in U.S. education.

Almost everywhere in America, students are performing worse than their peers were 10 years ago, according to new, district-level test score data released Wednesday by the Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford.

Compared with a decade earlier, reading scores were down last year in 83 percent of school districts where data was available. Math scores were down in 70 percent. The declines have affected both rich and poor districts, and crossed racial and geographic divides.
would it make a difference then if we just did what we did during covid and stopped sending the kids to school?

Stop playing The Troll. You are not all that good at it. Parents need to own up.
questions like the ones you pretend to believe are trolling are specifically designed to show even the person holding up the example doesn't believe the examples accuracy/honesty...those without a social education will recognize it and your response.

You are no walking and writing special design unit, since you are basically just sentient.

The responsibility is fully on the parents, and if schooling in 2020 to 2023 was a tested, the parents as a whole failed.

and as I made clear and you now confirm the education system takes/bears no responsibility for our childrens education...now I am sure you do not believe any of that but if you want to continue down that path, then why send kids to school if it cuts into their education time? wouldn't that be counter productive in your version ?

Is it safe to assume that all of them CAN read?

You prove my point. Good day.

...

further proof the education system doesn't feel like they are responsible for our kids education
It's a team effort. Teachers, students, administration, and families. If possible, coaches, tutors, priests, and responsible friends. Even with all that, if students live in a bad neighborhood, don't have a good diet, have too much blue light late at night, or society itself is in disarray, it's an uphill struggle.

I didn't like reading as a kid... in fact I hated to read... today I read all the time... after one book is finished I read another one... usually from the library....
I love action books where the good guys win the day...
Like Clive Cussler's novels....

As a kid, I loved reading.

As a youth, I got in trouble in a Public Library one day for being in the Adult section. Even then, there were foolish adults who were primed for the coming of MAGA.

Primed to make America great???? just WTF is wrong with that anyway?....
Sad. The adult thought a grade school kid should not be reading books. Sick. Keep the kids back. Hold them back so they end up as pedestrian as you have.
:D
