How Trump is attacking critical thinking in order to manipulate us.

The reality of what is happening to our nation is that both sides are shifting to the extremes. That is more true with the Right than the Left but true nonetheless.

That right there is lack of critical thinking. It's more likely the extremism comes down equally on both sides. Why? Because both sides are comprised of human beings and that is human nature.
When talking about critical thinking, it is not a political event but a human event. It is a problem that has come about in our times because of advent of media, social websites (such as Facebook and Instagram) and television, which has caused us to see what others think, believe and experience but in a biased way. If we don't make the effort to do the needed research to seek the truth, we believe what we see and hear, which means critical thinking departs from our brain.
Critical thinking departs from our brains because we choose that. Neither mainstream media nor social media or anything else can take it from us.

Then of course we have a situation where a lot of people don't even understand what critical thinking is. As I pointed out in my first post, many who tout education do not understand that being educated is merely being given information, it not being taught critical thinking.

Critical thinking is not seeking information, it is a thought process that allows one to disseminate that information objectively.

Not sure I understand the argument. Universities will stop teaching their students to think critically if they don't get Federal grants?
I have no idea why you are even asking this question.

But it begins with the desire to obtain it. Most people these days do not seek knowledge or information. These days, they see what others have and believe they deserve having it themselves without working for it. That it will be given to them if they follow the right leader.

"most people" ???? do you live in an insane asylum?

I agree with you on that much.

It is both. Education and reading opens the door for critical thinking to occur, given that it gives you topics, instances, history, etc., that you would not normally be involved with. For example, if you grew up in a racist community that from childhood you were taught that Blacks are bad people, and you never left that community, your experiences would not teach you anything other than that. Nonetheless, if you read about the history of slavery and injustices done to Black people, your experiences would likely make you see things differently.

Education also expands your mind given that information is put into that you would not normally run into in your life.

As another example, if you did not read about the Constitution and the fight that occurred with Britain to gain our freedom and our Democratic values, your experiences would not give you any input into your brain about those principles.

Some pretty big "ifs" there.

What good is critical thinking as applied to problems if nothing changes? It becomes an exercise in futility, or just an intellectual exercise.

Now, take those few that protected their homes from those fires by taking certain preventative measures. That's what I call critical thinking in action.

The OP has to do with all the people that follow their leader blindly without doing any checking on the veracity, competence, benefits and consequences and potential/probable outcomes.

Why would even mention those that protected their "homes from fires". Do you know if any of them were accused of cultish behaviors?

I remember that when Covid started in February 2019, Trump said that there was nothing to worry about. Were those people (or you) in that category of believing him?

I wasn't!

It was impossible for critical thinkers to have voted for this.

Many experts said the same thing. I wasn't worried as I knew that I wouldn't catch it, being as healthy as I am.

Many who voted for Trump are now critical of some of his policies Just because they voted for him doesn't mean they are brain-dead. Also, many voted for what they considered the less of evils.

That is correct. Trump is withdrawing support from education facilities. How are people supposed to learn if they have no teachers, or cannot afford those that are available.
They'll just have to make do.

If people can read, they can learn.
Except that this is the reality

AI Overview

Daily reading for pleasure in the U.S. has declined significantly, with a recent University of Florida and University College London study finding a 40% drop over the last 20 years (2003-2023).

They can learn if they read, but the "DESIRE" to read and learn has diminished. Television, movies, and social media has taken the place of reading and researching interest

First of all, when Biden was originally voted in (in November 2020) he was not in that kind of condition, as such your post and pic is useless

That dog won't hunt, son. This is from November 2020.

Biden fractures foot after fall, will likely be in walking boot 'for several weeks'
The president-elect fell while playing with his dog.

Sans teachers I'll bet reading, self-study, would increase. I'm 60 plus years out of school and I still read-to-learn. The internet is loaded with tutorials on just about any subject. It's a virtual classroom for everyone.

So you are saying that falling is a sign of losing one's mind?

Wow, that means that there are a lot of young and "supposedly" clear minded individuals that according to you have lost their ability to think clearly, and if they are voted into office, the voters are mindless as well

How often do normal people fall?

Falls and fall-related injuries are not uncommon in young adults and may be considered a lifestyle issue related to sports and vigorous activity. The reporting of falls increased with age from 18% in young, to 21% in middle-aged and 35% in older adults, with higher rates in women than men.

I do too. That does not mean that most people do the same.
