It’s not mystifying at all. The results of the tests make it harder for leftists to insist that the reason everyone doesn’t have equal outcomes is due to racism, or lack of greater investment In poorer areas, or what have you.

When I was in elementary school, we had ”tracking” in which all the bright kids were placed together, average kids together, and the slow kids together. Now leftists are so afraid of making the below-average and even average kids feel bad that they prefer to hold back the students with the most promise to contribute to society.

Do they do that with school sports? Model education on that. Children naturally want to be on teams and compete.

Divide the class into teams and quiz frequently. The team with the highest scores gets Friday off. The team with the lowest has to come in on Saturday. Individual high-scorers from four grades older will get paid to teach the Saturday classes.

That way, the smartkids will be treated like the athlete who got the game-winning hit or saved the game with a great catch. And everybody contributes to victory or to the team's avoiding being last. So all students will have a natural motivation to study.

Other than giving kids time off why is that a stupid idea? In every other part of life competition and winning are rewarded. This just applies that to education. When I was in EOD school, the military had something similar without the carrot. If you failed a test you had the weekend to study while everyone else was off. Then you re-tested on Monday. If you failed THAT test you had to recycle to another class and take the subject matter over. If you failed again, you were on a plane to Vietnam as an infantryman within hours.
 
There's not much of a gap anymore... white students are testing in the 40 percentile... the lowest in the nation along with NYC and Chicago....


That's the key right there in curing the "Achievement Gap". Its a lot easier just to work to reduce white and asian scores than it is to raise minority scores. And since libs really don't care about anything except "the gap", this is the surest way to achieve equity.
