How Much For One Peanut?

You pay a mortgage which may be deducted from your gross income for the calculation of taxes. Improvements to your home will increase the basis used to calculate capital gains. Uncovered losses from natural disasters can be deducted from your gross income. The government subsidizes home ownership via tax breaks.

About 2,400 years before the record label and before the comic book (now there's an admission), Elektra (the Greek alphabet does not include the letter C and the name was originally spelled with kappa (K)) was a character in plays by Euripides and Sophocles who murders her mother Clytemnestra to revenge the murder of her father, Agamemnon (of the Trojan War).

Only interest is deducted! Not the Principle! The profit which is taxed on the lender side is the interest, they pay the tax on the interest, it is only justice that interest is not taxed twice!!!!!

My mortgage is not deducted from gross income, only the interest!!!!! There is no subsidy, interest is taxed, just not taxed twice!!!!!

Elektra? Ἠλέκτρα, as they would say in Greek? Was never translated as electra? Only as Elektra? You can not win today baby boy.

Do you see a C in there? I don't. I see a kappa? Do you read Greek? I certainly don't know the language but I've been going to Crete on and off for business for the last few years and have the pronunciation down. What you have written down there is Upper epsilon, lambda, lower epsilon, kappa, tau, rho, alpha - which transliterates to Elektra.
The point is that you should have known Elektra is a female name. Hell, the comic book character certainly is. Afraid it is you that cannot win this day or any day that you insist on assuming a position of ignorance.

Back to the thread topic: do you believe the government should act in ways it believes will benefit it's citizens? For instance, should the government fund medical research? Should they fund research on energy efficiency? Should they fund research on increased safety in flight and automobiles? Yes or no.

Suppose a cure for cancer is developed but that it is so expensive to produce, pharmaceutical companies do not believe they will profit from it. Would it be acceptable for the government to subsidize its production?

This article is about the mythological character Electra. For other uses, see Electra (disambiguation).

In late breaking News, this forum is about the Environment!!!!! Not medical research!!!!

Nor poor nick choices. The question stands.

A representative democracy has an obligation to act in ways that can reasonably be considered beneficial to its populace. It is reasonable to assume that working against AGW is beneficial and thus there is no basis to demand the government cease such efforts.

The problem isn't the government or its actions. The problem is denier ignorance.

The problem is the "solution" increases the use of hydrocarbons thus increasing co2, which shows the whole thing as a scam to make select corporations and banks rich.

The other problem is Crick who thinks NASA does not predict weather shows himself to simply not know anything.

I like how crick posted that the government gives me money so I can buy my house. What a complete idiot.

Wrong

Wrong.

This is what you get when ignorance speaks.

As for the costs of wind and solar power technologies, I would first like to make the observation that the technology is invading the world's power systems faster than anyone would have believed possible even a decade ago. As far as numbers, we find things like:

The Cost of Wind Energy in the U.S.

The Cost of Wind Energy in the U.S.

The Cost of Wind Energy in the U.S.

That investors would favor an industry with a favorable tax credit and move away were that credit to become uncertain actually says nothing about the value of the industry. This is why we have data like this from the conservative Atlantic magazine

That enormous drop in the 1st quarter of 2013 was due to uncertainty in the future of the tax credit. When investors were reassured, investments and new construction starts took up right where they left off. The problem is that you assign no value whatsoever to eliminating GHG emissions. That is your mistake.

For photovoltaics, read https://nature.berkeley.edu/~fowlie/PV_AR_2013.pdf. The highest cost per module is $2.36/kWh. How much do you think construction costs for a fossil fuel plant might run? And then, of course, there is the cost of FUEL that the PV gets for free. Forever.

Please don't fall for the installed capacity swindle

Wind on average and as proven in real world numbers only produces at best 30% of rated capacity

So now it seems that offshore wind farms are fouling up whale's navigation resulting in them beaching themselves. Tell me, are you going to be as OK with off shore wind farms killing whales as you are with land based wind farms killing raptors, bats and migratory birds? We already know that you want skeptics killed...is there anything you won't kill to see your socialist, marxist dream come true?

Not to mention that if wind was going to be anywhere near viable as a major source of power we would have to use tens of thousands of square miles of land

Pure fucking bullshit, Skull, and you know it. There are hundreds of wind mills standing in the wheat fields east of The Dalles, Oregon. They grow wheat right up to the base of the mills. And the wheat farmers get a nice royalty payment from each of the mills, plus the county gets tax benefits. The bases for the mills are 30 to 50 feet across. That is not much space at all.

Liar. Post a link for that. Whales have been beaching themselves for long before there were any offshore mills.
