When it comes to whipping mom made us go cut a green oak switch from our trees and then she would stripe us with it. It was a just punishment never as abuse. The few times I got whipped it was fora good reason.

That's just what my mom did. Little switching of our legs. My brother and I had to go get the switches and if it was just a twig, we had to go back and get a thicker one. That smarted as it was usually summer and we were in shorts. Dad would stand there, watching mom lightly do our legs, so we wouldn't run away. Mom was such a piece of cake, she never would have switched us without his Marine presence and dictates.

First off "spankings" are NOT "whippings". Spanking is done with the hand. Whippings are done using an object - belt, stick, or paddle. They are not the same thing at all.

Secondly, corporal punishment is not "evil", but it is child abuse.

I was spanked and it was useless. Children who are hit, learn to hit others. Fear of a spanking never stopped me from doing anything.

I never spanked any of my children. There are other, more effective ways of discipline that respect a child's bodily autonomy and doesn't cause them harm or pain.

My only experience with nuns was being in a catholic hospital at age three with scarlet fever. The nuns kept showing up with thermometers they stuck up my ass. That’s when I definitively discovered that I wasn’t going to become gay.

You didn't mention the genders of your four siblings, but if they were guys, I imagine they kept you in line making the parental discipline unnecessary. LOL

I did until I confronted my father with a shotgun.

My wife did until she put her father in the hospital with a broken arm. This was several years after putting a sadistic nun in the ICU with a broken jaw and a bunch of missing teeth.

One of my classmates did until he pounded his father into a wall, breaking more than half of his bones, and did not stop until a neighbor smashed a chair over his head. Upon arrival, a 20-year veteran paramedic had to go outside to vomit.

Another classmate did, until she decided it was better to turn tricks at 14.

A third classmate did, so she started getting drunk before going home. Every day. She was a full-blown alcoholic by 11, regularly chugged 100-proof liquor like water at 12, was chasing pills with Bacardi 151 at 13, and was dead at 24.

Any adult that hits a child in any way, shape, or form at any time, under any circumstances, even ONCE, should be publicly tortured to death over a period of not less than a year. The vivisectionists should be paid by the hour and the decibel based on screaming.

That generation believed in consequences. I think I got my last swat in school when I was in 8th grade for fighting. That was the early 60s. My folks had a pat policy for that. LOL, they figured if I got swats at school, I must have done something to deserve it (they were right.). Their position was if I told them about it, I would get more so I was mum on the subject when I got swats in school.

Of course-you're always wrong! Adults are infallible! That's why so many child molesters got away with it for so long.

I only got one paddling from the Principal....It was kinda-sorta deserved. A fight broke out and I did not get out of the way in time, I got punched, and then it was on!

The Principal was a Bataan Death March survivor and did not stand for any foolishness.

Yes, got my butt beat many times. Mostly by dad, and he used a handful of what we called hickories (switches). 4 or 5 at a time and he wouldn't stop until he had nothing in his hand but nubs.

I was even paddled as a senior in high school for fighting on the bus. There was 5 of us and we had a choice, get paddled (5 licks) or suspension. We all chose the paddle and got to watch each person get his licks. Mr T (principal) didn't play either, he had this paddle with what looked like a bat handle and he gripped it with 2 hands.

I wonder if he locked his office to masturbate when he was finished.

There's a difference between spanking and abuse. We got walloped now and then as kids when we did something bad. You only need to spank once or twice and then use it as just a threat.
