I did and so did my kids. Some people say it is evil or child abuse.

Mom did the whipping dad did the lesson learning. Lesson learning includes making you kill clean and cook and eat a possum so you know what he had to eat growing up so you will appreciate the food him and mom provide for us. It made those bean and rice look real good. When it comes to whipping mom made us go cut a green oak switch from our trees and then she would stripe us with it. It was a just punishment never as abuse. The few times I got whipped it was fora good reason.

I was never beaten as a child but by God did we get smacked or the wooden spoon if we did something deserving of it!! And yes; stealing from the shop (lollies) deserved a whack!!

"Go cut me a switch". Those were the five most dreaded words a kid in my AO could hear. ;)

Hell, today just handing a kid the knife to do so (if they did not already have their own) would get you in dutch with child services in a lot of places.

Should I say what I really think about corporal punishment or do you all want me to play along and pretend?
No, the subject matter is if you got a whipping or not.....I doubt if anyone cares what you think about the pratice.

Just the facts Glasnost.:)

You guys are wusses! I'd way rather my mom beat my ass than take my phone or xbox. :)

LOL, I heard those five words more than once--usually followed by "and it better be a good one because if I don't like it, YOU'RE not going to like it."

My grandma used a switch.

My grampa gave Indian burns.

My mama used a hot wheel track.

My father used a belt.

Didn't work.

We could hide the hot wheel tracks in undisclosed locations if we knew mom was going to be mad about something we did. But switches are everywhere.

Withholding privileges teaches respect and appreciation. Corporal punishment teaches pain and fear and it also teaches that you can get what you don’t deserve by depriving others rather than earning it. But getting to your question: I am sure that my real father spanked me but he was out of the picture long before I was five-years old. My step-father threaten to spank me twice but he never did it. My real father was an ass. Even worse was my grand-father who beat me every chance he got. But my step-father taught me that understanding is more important and that withholding privileges helps to teach appreciation rather than fear. The problem is that if your parents don't understand the difference between the two then they've little chance of knowing.

You should have been beaten more because you didn't learn jack shit about respect.
