What is the Taliban do so well that they are sticking all this time. They gotta be doing something right.. but idk wat that is

Well, resistance is popular... even if they get labeled Taliban by the media in the West. I'd fight foreign troops on my soil, wouldn't you? Even if the main well-known insurgent force was a bunch of dicks, I'd still do what I could to kick the foreign troops out.

We abandoned Afganistan. When we abandon Iraq, the Mook Tada El Sadr's are going to take over.

And so now we are trying to help the tribal leaders in Afgan/Pakistan so they don't need the Taliban.

We're having them grow Pamagranites instead of poppi's for drugs and we are buying/trading with them so they are kicking the taliban out.

But don't worry. We neglect many nations so the taliban will take over somewhere else. They say Africa is ripe for the taking.

Simple...they keep scarce troops throughout many run down towns. They fight with sparatic fire and small arms. They never move in large forces. And they dictate any encounter with enemies. If they are fighting with sparatic, small arms fire. Most of the time the only effect way to destroy them is with the same tactics.

Another perk with fighting with small units is that even when the enemy gets a victory it doesn't cause any major damage. So the enemy gains no ground.

The leaders of the taliban also stay hidden very well. They stay on the move constantly and never give out too much information.

Too be honest, the U.S. military should start to use some of the taliban's tactics. Use the special forces more. Teach the Marines and the Army how to travel in smaller units and do night missions. Use hit and run tactics. Plant bombs in taliban houses. Anything to that effect would work.

Moving an entire battalion at one time and trying to cover them with air support just isn't the way to fight wars anymore, or atleast not this one. Driving huge military vehicles up small streets is asking for an ambush.

So that's just some of the reasons the Taliban has lasted so long.

The taliban are the wacko militia's of their neighborhoods. If there are no jobs, the tribal elders allow the militia's to run wild.

If we make good business deals for the tribal elders communities where we trade/buy/do business with them, then they tell the radicals to beat it or lay low.

Bush didn't want to do anything other than keep fighting. At the end of every war comes negotiations and diplomacy. But not in GW's wars. I believe he liked being in a state of war. So fuck solutions. If we have solutions, then blackwater and haloburton stop making money.

So now we are actually trying to get out but not leave the middle east worse off than when we invaded.

We have afgans growing pamagranites??? instead of drugs. And England is buying their pamagranites.

We can't abandon them again. If we do, the taliban and al queda will come back. That's why they went there in the first place. The place is a dump.

The taliban is still here because US soldier have to follow rules of engagement. If this were not so we would have destroyed the taliban long ago.

The RoE need some serious adjustments. I appreciate the desire to maintain the moral high ground, but pragmatism must be considered in times of war. I heard that when we (our troops) first went in, ht Taliban could shoot, run, drop the gun- and we weren't allowed to shoot them since they were unarmed. Can anyone confirm?
