How Do You Define Censorship?

Free speech has been under fire for a while now Frigid one

Our government simply does not wish us to be informed of their doings and dealings

So once you get your head around that, we can delve into just what our gub'mit has been doing to achieve this

And no, they don't want you to put it all together

They want us to fight among ourselves about it

Free speech is always "under fire". The government wants to control the narrative, other people also want to control the narrative.

But it depends on what you think is free speech.

The problem is the "They" in your last sentence isn't just the government. It's people like the Koch brothers, Soros etc pumping money into manipulating people. It's the Russians and Chinese too.

If the US is to survive, people need to find a balance between freedom of speech and stopping the manipulation of the people by those who are intent on destroying the US.

It's not very easy, but with Russia and China it's obvious, but are the Koch brothers A) destroying the US or B) Patriots who only want what is best? And the answer is probably somewhere in between, they've changed the political landscape without considering the consequences, in order to get what they want.

The solution, of course, is to change the electoral system to Proportional Representation so the rich have far less influence and a voter's vote is worth something.

So basically, people can have free speech but there might be consequences for saying certain things.

In practice you are not censoring, but the spirit of your post is pro-censorship.
What I am saying is that no right is unlimited. By consequences I mean you can sued for libel, defamation or slander, you can be prosecuted for inciting violence. Those are one type consequence. The person you are directing your speech against can come back at you with his free speech, he can pull a community together to shun you, etc. That is another consequence. So yes …you are not free from the consequences of your actions. In a sense, I suppose the consequences mark free speech as well.

If that is pro censorship then I guess support it.

This is why it is so important to protect the rights of journalists and their right keep sources confidential.

No. The first amendment, which deals with free speech, is about the government persecuting people for their speech, not facebook.

You don’t have a problem with the government pressuring Facebook to remove information they didn’t like? That seems pretty nefarious to me and even Zuckerberg has admitted that he wished they had not give in.
