How do Republicans get the White House in 2016?

The good news. Republicans are well positioned to take the White House in 2016, They have strong candidates while the Dems have no "next in line" to Obama

The bad news. They are still Republicans and are prone to forming circular firing squads

What they need to do

1. Get rid of Grover Norquist: This unelected tyrant has managed to place every Republican into a fiscal box with no flexibility. It limits the choices Republicans have to implement good policy

2. Widen the base: Stop attacking Hispanics. Accept gay marriage, it will win points with young voters who look at it as a civil rights issue. Tone down your anti-abortion rhetoric. Still oppose abortion but embrace birth control, allow abortion in cases of rape, incest and a mothers health.

3. Accept Immigration reform: 10 million undocumented aliens. Offer work permits that allow them to stay. Offer those who have skills and jobs a path towards citizenship.

4. Run good candidates: Newt Gingrich, Hermann Cain, Michele Bachmann are not good presidential candidates. Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio are good candidates with wide appeal. Allow them to run as moderates. Compassionate Conservatives.

5. Distance yourself from the nutcases in your party: You know who they are. Tell them to STFU

Republicans can do all these things and still be Republicans. It will make you look more human, less dictatorial, more "huggable"

Otherwise, prepare for another shock in 2016

Very good post. I agree with all except for CC, who threw Romney under the bus in order to enhance his chances in 2016.

Yeah Christie defiantly hurt Romney's chances, and its very possible was a major factor in Romney's loss. I think he will seriously regret it one day when the GOP power elite pay him back. But as we now so clearly see, the Democratic political machine is so big, with such a huge and growing base, and so well organized, Hillary will be the next POTUS assuming her health holds up and the Libya scandal does not destroy her. Obama will throw her under the bus if he has to, even though he owes the Clintons big time.

What needs to happen is all the IOU's democrats and fiscally challenged republicans have been writing have to come due. At that point, when democrats cannot "tax someone else" thier way out of it, (which is already happening) then people will realize what needs to be done.

Until then, democrats will continue to win by promising people something for nothing.

Keep telling yourself that. It will ensure that Democrats will continue to be elected for the next generation. How did that 47% stuff work out for you?

Yet, Republicans go right back to it after getting their asses kicked in Tuesdays election

I wish it wasnt the case, but evidently trying to tell the electorate that democrats ideas of government finances are all smoke and mirrors will not get you a win. We will need for it to crap out before we can make people see the truth.

and losing 50%-48% is not "getting your asses kicked", especially against and incumbent.

You had a weak President in a weak economy. You had the Democrats defending 23 Senate seats while you only had to defend 10. Republicans were primed to take the White House, Senate and keep the House

What happened?
Obama smashed Romney 332 - 208
Instead of Republicans picking up five seats in the Senate, they lost two

That is getting your ass kicked

I fully expect Biden to step down and Hillary to be named VP during this term. I doubt the Dems are going to want to pin their chances on Biden in 4 years. They are going to look to position Hillary for a run.

The nut cases in our party are those that continue to give the nomination to the guy that lost the time before. Our last 2 candidates have been Liberal lite.
In stead of running a real Conservative, our last 2 candidates have been wishy-washy moderates that can't really articulate a Conservative agenda.
We need a true Conservative candidate, hopefully, either one the MSM hates with a passion or one who is as passionate and optimistic as Reagan or who's race or heritage would make him immune to criticisms that could be labled "racist".
Marco Rubio is that candidate, Condoleeza Rice would fit, as well.

While I like Cristy, unless he can get his weight under control he doesn't have a chance with the large segment of the population that judges a candidate on physical appearance.

hahahahahahahahahah

cant really articulate a conservative agenda?

dude the reason they cant is the Americans people HATE your little agenda

47% of them do, but what happens to all those votes when the well runs dry?

Obama got over 50% of the vote

In other words, become just as grasping and evil as democrats! Good idea. If republicans actually did this, why even bother being republicans. Just call themselves democrats and be done with it.

Actually, there is nothing in Republican doctrine that says they can't

1. Enact immigration reform
2. Accept abortion in the cases of rape, incest or the mothers health
3. Accept gay marriage
4. Accept the fact that scientists are right about global warming
5. Accept small tax increases in conjunction with spending cuts

If that makes you sleep better at night, fine. Also the EV tally is a swing of 3 states out of 50.

And the only way we would have taken the senate was with a landslide coatail effect from Romney.

Lol, never happen.

I also dont think Biden will run for POTUS, although I do think he won't be ready to retire from politics completely in 2016.

Your party lost no mater what twisting in the wind you do.

Your ideas were NOT picked by this democracy

Of course not. This democracy is majority leeches that voted to bleed the host dry. That's not going to change by 2016. It won't change until there is so little to feed the leeches that they start to die off on their own. This means removing their means of sustaining themselves. Removing jobs and removing the money for entitlements. The majority will continue to vote for the person promising the most free stuff. That will continue until the majority figures out that no matter what they are promised, there's no more free stuff to be had.

If someone can't leave the country, they can send their money out of the country. Convert it into a more stable currency, stop investing in American companies. Instead of expansion, stuff your money in a mattress. Hunker down and ride it out. Take care of yourselves and those you care about and throw the rest out of your little lifeboat. When someone tells you we are all in this together, the person telling you that is a looter.

Seems like we just need to:

Pander to illegal aliens
Demonize rich people
Treat women as mindless, faceless vaginas
Sell people on the new norm... record deficits, unemployment, etc.
Etc., etc., etc.

moderates?

your last candidate was a decent guy who picked a moron as his VP candidate. instead of BEING the moderate he was in 2000, he went all winger in 2008. he'd have won if he ran as mccain 2000.

your candidate this time was running against himself... people didn't like the etch-a-sketch and more importantly didn't want the nutters coming along with him... like mourdock...

stop blaming moderation on your losses... neither mccain or romney took moderate positions. a moderate is not in favor of personhood laws; a moderate IS in favor of equal pay for equal work; a moderate does not allow his surrogates to campaign using racism as... eg, food stamp president; a moderate tells his birfer loons to piss off... and doesn't hang with them, allowing them to do huge fundraisers for him.

oh...and moderates don't antagonize the largest growing segment of our population by shrieking mindlessly about self-deportation.

and until your party figures out that it's not moderation that is your problem, but misogyny, racism and theocrats, then you're going to keep losing.
