How can anyone be sure there are no mines?

I'm sure the Iranians aren't advertising their mine laying activities. So a path is swept but how does any ship captain know that it's actually safe? How does anyone know? From what I understand even the Iranians don't actually know.

Just the threat alone is enough sow doubt.
I mean who wants to be the guy who says afterwards: " But they said it was safe!". ????

I think that underwater mines can be swept, but seabed mines could be a long term problem.
