How America ended up with the worst maternity leave laws on earth

One, some businesses simply can't afford to pay a new mother 3-4 weeks for not working, much less 12 weeks.

Two, 12 weeks of maternity leave is way too long, but that's what federal employees and most state and local employees get.

IF the business can reasonably afford it, I have no problem with 3-4 weeks of maternity leave. If the business can't afford it, then there should be a tax break for those businesses so they don't suffer financially.

But 12 weeks? No, that's too much.

Speaking of Tax breaks I saw this and didnt know where it should go:
TIL Verizon received $2.1 billion in tax breaks in PA to wire every house with 45Mbps by 2015. Half of all households were to be wired by 2004. When deadlines weren't met Verizon kept the money. The same thing happened in New York.

Conservative logic

We don't want to pay for contraception - the individual should be responsible for this but thanks to obamacare, birth control is now free!

We oppose sex education - false, we believe that the parents are responsible for teaching sex education, not schools

We won't pay for prenatal care - false and a moot points as the 10 essentials in obamacare mandate this be covered.

We oppose paid maternity leave - false we believe it's up to the company to decide not government

We don't want to pay for childcare - childcare is up to the parents to provide not the government

WHAT!
You are getting an ABORTION?

Abortion ends the life of another human being. Yeah, we frown up that, whereas leftists encourage it.

No, they don't.

I think my position on tax expenditures has been made pretty clear by now. ;)

None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. For anyone.

Again pregnancy happens from sex not from W-2's. And since you dont seem to know I'll explain what the **** they are doing getting pregnant.

When a boy and girl like each other....*skip*....Sex. Sex can result in pregnancy regardless of economic status. All women can have babies (except the harlots cursed by the devil).

Regardless of economic status, health insurance is now mandatory and birth control is covered so there is zero excuse for a woman getting pregnant unless she chooses to do so. Her body, her choice, her responsibility. I mean, it works that way with abortion, no?

There is no excuse because birth control is 100% effective. Let me hear you say it. Birth control is 100% effective. I'll wait

Half of all abortions are the result of NO BIRTH CONTROL BEING USED during the sex act which led to the unwanted pregnancy.

Another fifth are due to the improper or inconsistent use of birth control.

I'm not advocating for either but you know that abstinence is the only 100 percent effective method.

Abstinence is a ridiculous expectation to place on a marriage.

Birth control works just fine.

100% of unwanted pregnancies are due to a failure of abstinence

How America ended up with the worst maternity leave laws on Earth - The Week

Since the 1960s, a handful of states have mandated paid maternity leave, framing pregnancy as a disability that allowed new mothers to be eligible for temporary disability insurance, says Steven Wisensale, a professor at the University of Connecticut who does research on family leave policy. But the idea didn't take off. Currently, only California, Rhode Island, and New Jersey provide paid family leave.

In the Reagan years, there was a rebirth of individualism in American politics, notes Wisensale. Since then, paid leave "is viewed by the right wing and frightened moderates as 'more big taxes by big government,'" he says. Shabo agrees that the United States has a "mythologized individualistic culture," where people believe finances and parenthood are to be dealt with individually, with each family fending for themselves

In the meantime, this political stalemate isn't doing expectant mothers any favors. "When women don't have access to paid leave, the birth of a child can be a moment of financial crisis for a family," says Martin.

Williams puts it more bluntly: "The United States is still trying to pretend that real workers don't have babies," she says. "Other countries offer paid maternity leave because they're facing reality — we have our head in the sand."

Don''t you know the winger baggers only care about fetus 's and zygots ,not mothers and children and families.

No, they don't.

Yeah, it does but you'll tell yourself that so you can wipe your conscience.

Then they didn't abstain did they?

And self control is what is supposed to separate humans from the rest of the animal kingdom..

We are still animals and we still like to ****. Always have and always will

yeah but we're already paying for all those contraceptives.....

so having a child should be considered a CHOICE....

why not just allow the woman to take leave for as long as she needs to.....but don't make the employer pay for it....after all he's got to pay for somebody to fill her spot while she's gone...and temps can sometimes cost a chunk of money...
