Why are we even doing this in the first place???

Well ... it was planned for a long time and many TVs are already digital capable anyway. The hype is the con job thought up to force us to spend money (or trick in many cases) into a few companies that sell boxes. Really, it's more likely you won't have to do a thing, but a ton of taxes have already been given to the companies to pay for these 'coupons', which many have expired and you can't get them re-issued so they got that money for free from us all.
