One of the key components of Critical Thinking is to at some point assume that you are incorrect, and belief has absolutely nothing to do with that.

The purpose is to cause you to stop your current course, examine what you are looking at and find fault in what you are thinking.
The need to do so is to arrive at a proper understanding of simply what you have been provided, without allowing your desires to overwhelm your ability to make a more valid judgement.

That in no way changes any of the factors as in how the data was collected, reported, or interpreted, and simply disallows your ability to pretend you can fill in the blanks with whatever you want to.

If the issue is important enough to you that you need to find a more substantial result that you have not yet achieved, then that simply requires you investigate further, with better and more valid sources until you are satisfied with the results no matter whether or not they suit your desires or previous beliefs.
